Comedy Dynamics is a thoroughly modern company specializing in delivering laughs directly to you, anytime, anywhere and on any device. Home of the largest independent comedy library, the company has produced more than 100 television specials and 200 albums in five years with many of the business’ biggest names.
While Comedy Dynamics is still the biggest supplier of some of the most innovative voices to its traditional television and streaming licensing partners, founder and President Brian Volk-Weiss has brought the company into the 21st century. He made deals with Hulu, Roku, iOS, Android, Amazon Prime and other platforms in 2014 and less than a year later, Comedy Dynamics is filling them with direct-to-consumer content on a weekly basis.
Comedy Dynamics released its first original film, “Adventures in Comedy,” to its channels in February. And soon the next-generation network will release its first original comedy series, “Coming To The Stage,” directly to fans. Like this new content, almost all of Comedy Dynamics’ catalog is available to the public through iTunes, Soundcloud, SiriusXM, Pandora and Amazon Fire. And more content is added every week.

Comedy Dynamics founder and president Brian Volk-Weiss stands at the forefront of comedy’s evolution in the 21st century.
Since the launch of Comedy Dynamics in 2008, he has guided the award-winning brand to becoming the nation’s largest independent producer and distributor of one-hour comedy specials, while initiating innovative partnerships with Amazon, ROKU, and HULU—where it ranks as one of the platform’s top three most popular comedy channels. Whether it’s working with Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari, and more, GRAMMY® Award-winning albums, or television productions like the History Channel’s Join or Die with Craig Ferguson, Brian’s vision remains central.
“Wherever we need to be tomorrow, we go there today,” he says. “We don’t wait for culture to catch up. We try to stay a few steps ahead.”
Growing up in New York City, Brian didn’t wait to begin following his dreams either. Inspired by Star Wars at three-years-old, he spent high school making short films before eventually attending the University of Iowa. Three days post-graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles where countless PA gigs (including one in the wardrobe department for Castaway) and unpaid internships paved the way to a job as a manager’s assistant.
Soon, he started building his own roster of comedians. New Wave Entertainment purchased the company in 2003 as Brian oversaw the careers of top tier comedic talent and produced various films: Employee of the Month, Good Luck Chuck, and My Best Friend’s Girl. Along the way, he went from producing specials for his clients to working on those for non-clients and moving up the ladder to Head of Production and later President of Production. In 2013, he became a Partner and currently serves as President.
Under the New Wave Entertainment umbrella, the Comedy Dynamics production and distribution system became a paramount focus.
“Very early on, I recognized the value of having a library,” he goes on. “We started aggressively building ours in 2008, and we had something substantial very quickly.”
This 600-plus title library encompasses fan favorites such as the Kevin Hart Presents: series, Marc Maron: Thinky Pain, Katt Williams: Priceless, and many more. In 2016, Comedy Dynamics released three of the five GRAMMY® nominees for “Best Comedy Album,” including the winner Louis C.K.’s Live at Madison Square Garden. Brian would usher the art form into a new era by envisioning and executing streaming deals. He simultaneously oversees Comedy Dynamics Classics, which keeps the legacies of pioneers like Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, and more alive in the digital age.
Starting with the fourth season of Comedy Dynamics’ Hulu hit Coming to the Stage, Brian decided to shoot episodes in VR, expanding the boundaries of content delivery yet again.
Along the way, Brian and Comedy Dynamics have been featured by Forbes, The Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone, Marketplace, and The Interrobang, while Daily Variety named him in its Impact Report on “Tube Titans.”
Today, he oversees a staff of 70, while the company’s Burbank HQ boasts everything from a camera house to a full post-production line. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
