Biography View

Born in Washington, D.C., to a Sudanese father and an African-American mother, Amir Mohamed grew up in the Washington suburb of Prince George's County, Maryland. Influenced by a myriad musicians on both sides of his family, the combination of his bi-cultural upbringing would be key in defining his sound. Dedicating most of his childhood years to art & illustration, Oddisee surprisingly turned down the opportunity to attend the Art institute of Philadelphia where he was accepted. His transition into music still found its start in Philadelphia when he landed a self written & produced track on the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff's the "Magnificent" album.

After releasing numerous mix-tapes and singles, performing across the world with the likes of The Roots, De La Soul, Talib Kweli and many others, Oddisee turned his focus to releasing studio projects. His critically acclaimed debut album ‘People Hear What They See’ received the  "iTunes Music Award" for best HipHop album.

2013 and 2014 saw Oddisee headlining two nationwide tours and one world tour as well as releasing the heavily licensed Instrumental album ‘Rock Creek Park.’

In 2015, he returned with his sophomore album ‘The Good Fight,’ an effort dedicated to all things worth fighting for. The retro-soul single "That's Love" charted in numerous countries and was licensed for several commercials and international campaigns in the US, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand. Following the release, Oddisee & his band "Good Compny" set out on another global tour. Performing at major festivals such as Glastonbury, North See Jazz, SXSW, Roskilde, Couleur Café  to name a few. Along side festival dates, Oddisee & his band headlined dozens of sold out shows across North America, Europe, Australia & New Zealand.

2016 saw the release of his Pitchfork-praised ‘Alwasta’ EP & instrumental album ‘The Odd Tape.’  Closing out the year with performances in Dubai for Red Bull Music Academy & the industry get together "Summit At Sea", Oddisee appeared alongside Quentin Tarantino, Kendrick Lamar, Will.i.am and Herbie Hancock.

He will release ‘The Iceberg’ on February 24 - a distillation of stereotypical tropes in hip-hop and beyond, 12 tracks about money, sex, politics, race and religion that appear superficial until his multi-dimensional lyrics unfurl to expose the complexities of individuality and identity: how we see ourselves and how others see us.  Deeply soulful, and shot through with jazz, Go-go, gospel, thick r&b and hard beats, the album is a timely, poetic statement.  The album was recorded and produced by Oddisee in his own studio in Brooklyn.
