Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer is confirmed to introduce the Woodstock, N.Y.-based choral ensemble Ars Choralis' performance of "Music in Desperate Times: Remembering the Women's Orchestra of Birkenau" concert on Saturday, March 28th at St. John the Divine.
Known for her unique style as a famous psychosexual therapist, Dr. Ruth also has a personal connection to the Holocaust, as she was transferred as a child out of Nazi Germany to Great Britain by the Kindertransport - a story she detailed in her autobiography "Musically Speaking: A Life Through Song."
"Music in Desperate Times" will tell the little-known story of how music saved the lives of the only women's orchestra in the Auschwitz/ Birkenau concentration camp during World War II by interweaving orchestral music with spoken memoirs from the women.
