DJ Premier, Soul Asylum & Meat Puppets, And Femi And Seun Kuti Hit Brooklyn Bowl In June

Brooklyn Bowl — called “New York City’s mecca of bowling, food, and entertainment” by the New York Observer — will welcome a night of classic east coast hip-hop from DJ Premier, as well as two separate nights of energetic Afrobeat from Femi and Seun Kuti, sons of Fela Kuti, as part of their June line-up.

Stooges Brass Band - Mon, June 8, 15, 22, and 29
The Stooges Brass Band has earned their rank as one of the elite brass bands in New Orleans. The band consistently provides a welcome blast of true New Orleans spirit, engaging audiences with their innovative blend of traditional New Orleans brass sounds, contemporary jazz and hip-hop beats. Emerging onto the scene in 1996, the Stooges Brass Band has gained notoriety as a full-blown musical party - immersing their audiences in a cut-loose vibe that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in the rich musical legacy of New Orleans - and have since shared the stage with acts like Ozomatli, Black Star (Mos Def & Talib Kweli), Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, The Funky Meters, and Jessica Simpson (shows: 8:00pm, admission: single night $8-10 or four night pass $26).

Femi Kuti + The Positive Force - Wed, June 10, Thurs, June 11
The eldest son of Afro-beat legend Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti spent years playing saxophone in his father's band before eventually rising to superstardom with his own band, The Positive Force.  In the years since, Femi Kuti and The Positive Force have collaborated with artists like Common and Mos Def, and performed as the opening act during the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 2012 European tour.  The two time Grammy nominee and Headies Hall of Fame inductee (Nigeria’s most prestigious music award) will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for two nights of energetic Afrobeat (show: 8:00pm, admission: $30).

Electron - Fri, June 12
Electron is a four piece band created by The Disco Biscuits' bass player Marc Brownstein. What started as an avenue for Brownstein, with the support of his closest musician friends, to showcase a collection of songs he had written while briefly separated from The Disco Biscuits in 2000, has long been known for playing explosive versions of Brownstein's songs.  With a lineup featuring Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner from the Disco Biscuits, Mike Greenfield from Lotus and Tom Hamilton from JRAD and American Babies, Electron will bring some of the most experienced talent in the Jamband world to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl - kicking off what is poised to be the biggest year yet for Electron, with festival announcements at Jam on The River, Electric Forest, Gathering of the Vibes, and more (show: 9:00pm, admission: $20).

DJ Premier Live (with full band) - Sat, June 13
DJ Premier is known as one of the most important trackmasters of the '90s, thanks to his aggressive and raw beats that feature an instantly recognizable sound clash of perfectly timed battling loops and heavy scratching.  DJ Premier rose to fame through his work with Gang Starr on their 1989 debut, and has since appeared on many of the East Coast's most important records: Nas' Illmatic, the Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, Jeru the Damaja's The Sun Rises in the East, and Mos Def's Black on Both Sides.  Now, DJ Premier will be joined by a full band on stage at Brooklyn Bowl to bring his classic jazz-infused east coast sound to life (show: 8:30pm, admission: $20).

Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 - Fri, June 19
Fela's youngest child will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl with his inimitable brand of Afrobeat – a sound that fuses jazz, funk and soul with highlife and other African rhythms, but with topical lyrics and contemporary influences giving it a modern twist. In 1997, following his father’s passing, Seun inherited the role of front man of the extraordinary Egypt 80 orchestra, who together, will share a night of kicking baselines, strong horn melodies, and call and response hooks (show: 8:00pm, admission: $17-20).

Soul Asylum & Meat Puppets - Sat, June 20
Two of the 80s most influential rock bands, Soul Asylum and Meat Puppets, will take to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform the music that turned them both from underground college rockers to international superstars.  Throughout the four decades of their career, the Meat Puppets have retained their dedicated fan base thanks to their influential hardcore sound and celebrity fans - most notably Kurt Cobain - who personally invited the Puppets to appear on Nirvana's classic performance, MTV Unplugged in New York.  Grammy winning Soul Asylum, who followed a similar rise to fame and have garnered a reputation as the country’s best live band, will join the Puppets to perform songs from their upcoming eleventh studio album (show: 8:00pm, admission: $20).

‘Buy This Fracking Album' Record Release Party - Tue, June 23
To celebrate the release of the two disc, 24 track anti-fracking benefit compilation, ‘Buy This Fracking Album,’ producer Jason Samel of Movement Music Records has organized a special event at Brooklyn Bowl. Joined by special guest Amy Helm, 'Buy This Fracking Album' contributors Marco Benevento & Dave Dreiwitz, Michael Glabicki, DJ Logic, Kristen Graves, and The Mike + Ruthy Band will come together to perform original songs written and recorded exclusively for the compilation, as well as classic songs that speak to the theme of environmental awareness (show: 7:00pm, admission: $15-30).

Widowspeak + Small Black (presented by Cutty Sark) - Tues, June 30
Comprised of Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, Widowspeak is known for its dreamy, western-tinged take on rock and roll that features melodies from Hamilton’s haunting voice and Thomas’ spindly, Morricone-esque guitar lines; both drawing on 1950s pop ballads and 1970s psych. The duo will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform songs from their latest release, 'The Swamps,' which takes their characteristic sonic landscapes, haunting harmonies, and layers of delicate guitar-work to usher in a new chapter in their dark and dreamy catalog.  Also that night, the Long-Island based Small Black will greet the crowd with their signature pulsing patchwork synths and addictive pop hooks - which they layer over a catalogue of rich and diverse samples from artists like Nas, The Carpenters, and Drake to build their experimental pop sound (show: 8:00pm, admission: $10).
