Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates “Israel Can Live With A Nuclear Iran” At Kaufman Center, January 16th

On January 16th, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) will open its Spring 2013 season with the debate “Israel Can Live with a Nuclear Iran.” Over the summer of 2012, despite increased international pressure and economic sanctions, Iran doubled the number of nuclear centrifuges installed in its underground Fordow site, stopping just short of the capacity to produce nuclear fuel. President Obama has rejected Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s call to draw a “red line” that would trigger U.S. military action. What are the costs and benefits of military action? Can Israel live with a nuclear Iran, or could the time be near for a pre-emptive strike?

James Dobbins, Director of the RAND International Security and Defense Policy Center and Reuven Pedatzur, senior military affairs analyst with Ha’aretz newspaper will argue in support of the motion. Shmuel Bar, Director of Studies at the Institute of Policy and Strategy in Israel and former Israeli Intelligence Officer and Jeffrey Goldberg, national correspondent for The Atlantic will argue against the motion.

Intelligence Squared U.S.'s spring season debates are streamed live on Fora.tv. Debates also air on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide and are televised nationally on PBS and in the New York area on PBS Channel Thirteen, WNET, WLIW, and NJTV.
