Maxwell Announces 35+ "Summer Soulstice" Tour Dates

Maxwell, the platinum soul star known for his show-stopping performances, has announced the 35+ date "Summer Soulstice" tour this June, July and August, his first major dates since 2010.

In concert, the singer and songwriter is lauded for his impeccable vocals, his connection to his audience and the sheer physicality of his performance. Last summer, at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, AOL's Black Voices wrote "[T]his night belonged to Maxwell...a perfect show. From the set's beginning until its end, the audience sang along to every note, every lyric, and every riff as the balladeer performed some of his biggest hits and crowd favorites."

On his last tour, the Chicago Tribune wrote that Maxwell "worked his band like Cab Calloway or James Brown, the horns slicing and dicing with Ginsu-knife precision, a Hammond organ taking us to church, the drums peppering everything with syncopated beats" while the NY Post observed that he "became the quintessential soul brother... half singing, half preaching as if he were possessed by the spirit of Sam Cooke." The Atlanta Journal Constitution said "within mere seconds, Maxwell was turning up the heat -- running up and down stairs on the set, sliding across the floor."

Maxwell began redefining classic soul music for a new generation with the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album, 'Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite,' in April 1996. Fueled in part by the RIAA gold single, "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)," the Grammy-nominated 'Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite' achieved double platinum status. Maxwell followed up with his 'MTV Unplugged' EP, released in July 1997. His second full-length album, 'Embrya,' was released in June 1998. Maxwell's 2009 album, the "unapologetically deep" (LA Times) 'BLACKsummers'night' ignited the charts and debuted at No. 1, winning him two Grammys and another platinum award. To date, Maxwell has achieved 12 gold and platinum certifications from the RIAA for his albums and singles.
