Mojo Premieres Liam Hayes' New Track "Fokus" - A "Psych-Pop Blast" From The New Album 'Slurrup" Out January 13th (Fat Possum)

Today, Mojo premiered Liam Hayes' new track "Fokus" from his forthcoming album, 'Slurrup,' out Jan. 13th (Fat Possum) calling it a "pysch-pop blast" that "also boasts a charming, heartfelt underbelly." Trading the lush orchestrations and hazy melodies that characterized some of his past work for psychedelic hooks with garage-rock immediacy, 'Slurrup' results in Hayes' leanest, most urgent album to date.

In other UK news, Liam wrote a guest column for Q Magazine in which he discusses the process of creating the cover artwork for 'Slurrup,' explaining: "this record seems to repel anything that's incongruent with its personality. It has a mind of its own. As soon as I dropped some cute pictures into the layout, it demanded ugly ones." Liam also wrote a clever piece for Q - A 'Grownup's Guide to Boredom Alleviation' - which includes new parlor games like naming cars after prescription drugs (Nissan Celebrex, Ford Cialas, etc). After touring with Christopher Owens earlier this fall, Hayes has confirmed his own headlining North American dates. Playing with the same 3-piece band that recorded the album, Hayes - called "one of the most charismatic and eccentric cult pop craftsmen of the past 20 years" (Uncut) - will kick things off with a show at Mercury Lounge in NYC before heading to San Francisco and LA. More dates will soon be announced.
