The Erroll Garner Jazz Project Kicks Off 2016 With Awards and Honors

The Erroll Garner Jazz Project, which oversees the legacy and extensive archive of the legendary pianist and civil rights activist, is preparing for a big 2016. 'The Complete Concert By The Sea' (Sony Legacy), the recently released remastered version of Erroll's historic 1956 live album, was nominated for both a GRAMMY and an NAACP Image Award. Reissued for the first time ever, the 3-disc set featuring 11 previously unheard songs from the live record, which is one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, was deemed a "revelation" by the NY Times.

Throughout 2016, Erroll's legacy will be celebrated in a number of ways, starting with an exhibit hosted at the University of Pittsburgh that opens February 4. The archive of Erroll Garner, who was a Pittsburgh native, was recently donated to the University under the direction of its' Jazz Studies program. The archive contains an immense cache of never-before-heard music, never-seen photos, video and other media, along with some of Garner's most prized possessions and personal effects.
