Continuing the longstanding American musical tradition, Barbershop Harmony Society will host its annual Midwinter Convention Jan. 17-22, 2017 in San Antonio, TX. This year, the event will kick-off with a keynote address by the "guru of a cappella" (New York Times) Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, NBC's 'The Sing-Off') and a special youth chorus performance directed by Francisco J. Núñez, best known as the Artistic Director/Founder of the Young People's Chorus of New York City and Conductor of the University Glee Club of New York City.

With under 300 tickets left, the action-packed week is expected to reach capacity and boast all generations -- youth choruses, senior quartets, women's and men's mixed harmony ensembles, beginners, world champions, educational classes, competitions and spectacular shows -- all bringing together more than 1,500 harmonizers along the Riverwalk.

One for the main highlights of the week is the Youth Chorus Festival, which attracts more than 600 youth singers to San Antonio from more than 20 choruses across the U.S. Two local groups will represent San Antonio: The Children's Chorus of San Antonio, featuring Madison High School's Kantorei, will perform on Thurs., Jan. 19 at 7:30 PM at the Lila Cockrell Theater under the direction of Peter Cunningham, and the MacArthur High School's award-winning a cappella group PFC will display their talents on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 PM at the Lila Cockrell Theater under the direction of Matt Woodward.

Further engaging the community, the Barbershop Harmony Society has made it a mission to give back to San Antonio while they are in town. This year, many award-winning quartets will be doing that by volunteering time at various locations across the city on Fri., Jan. 20 (full schedule below).

Downloadable video will be available upon request, and interviews and performances can also be scheduled. The week's packed run-of-show can be found here.
