September 17, 2015 - 'Stereotypes,' the major label debut from the socially conscious, boldly unclassifiable duo Black Violin, is out tomorrow on Universal Music Classics. With a sound that melds hip-hop, classical and pop music into an unprecedented amalgamation of styles, the album sees the duo "elicit brilliant music with a poignant message for the world" (Essence). This morning they were profiled on NPR's flagship program Morning Edition.

More praise for Black Violin:
"Their racially empowering debut is destined to turn heads with their unique sound and positive message." -- WXPN

"Classical music and hip-hop aren't two music genres that usually go together, but violinist Kev Marcus and viola player Wil Baptiste have found the sweet spot." -- KPCC

"Caters to the diverse and satiates the homespun, while challenging the same." -- Classicalite

Black Violin has recently performed on The Wendy Williams Show, Good Day NY and ESPN. Watch the powerful video for "Stereotypes," which premiered at Afropunk:

Classically trained musicians, Black Violin -- comprised of Wilner "Wil B" Baptiste (viola) and Kevin "Kev" Marcus Sylvester (violin) -- have opened for such diverse top names in music as Kanye West, 50 Cent, Aerosmith and Tom Petty, and also creatively collaborated with the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Linkin Park, Wyclef Jean and Alicia Keys, the latter for the Billboard Music Awards. They also performed for President Obama at his second inauguration.
