Intelligence Squared U.S. Brings "The U.S. Health Care System is Terminally Broken" Debate to Transform 2017 Conference, September 28

Intelligence Squared U.S. Brings “The U.S. Health Care System is Terminally Broken” Debate

Though few issues today are more divisive than health care, people of both political parties agree the system remains woefully inefficient. Are the structural shortcomings of America's fragmented system too dysfunctional to overcome? Or can tweaks to the existing health care framework jolt it back to life?

On Thursday, September 28, "America's debate series" Intelligence Squared U.S. will host a debate on the motion "The U.S. Health Care System is Terminally Broken" from Transform, the annual conference of the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation. Streaming live from Rochester, Minnesota, the debate continues Intelligence Squared U.S.'s growth into new markets following recent debates in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston, and beyond.

Debating in support of the motion are Robert Pearl, former CEO of the nation's largest medical group, The Permanente Medical Group, and Shannon Brownlee, author of Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer. Debating against the motion are Zeke Emanuel, chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, and David Feinberg, president and CEO of Geisinger, one of the nation's largest health services organizations.

The debate will be streamed live online, and then aired soon after as part of the syndicated public radio show and podcast "Intelligence Squared U.S." On September 28, online viewers can tune in at IQ2US's website (http://intelligencesquaredus.org).
