Monday, Sept 21 - This Saturday, September 19th, The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY marked an extraordinary milestone: 100 years of live music, community, and unforgettable performances. The iconic venue hosted a once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Celebration honoring a century of artists who have shaped its legendary stage.

Prior to the celebration inside, Port Chester Mayor Luis A. Marino and Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins each presented The Capitol Theatre with a special proclamation under the marquee alongside venue Owner Peter Shapiro and the full lineup of musicians. Mayor Marino officially proclaimed September 19 as “Capitol Theatre Day,” while County Executive Jenkins honored The Cap’s 100th anniversary and its lasting impact on Westchester County. 

DJ Brownie (Marc Brownstein of The Disco Biscuits) warmed up the night with a DJ set in Garcia’s before the mainstage lit up. The opening band BERTHA: Grateful Drag took the stage following a brief speech from Shapiro, honoring the legacy of the Grateful Dead at The Cap with a ripping 75 minute opening set of Grateful Dead. Shapiro and previous owner Marvin Ravikoff joined General Manager Kiley Williams (donning an inflatable squirrel costume) on stage to blow out the 100 candles on a birthday cake for the Cap.

Heading the evening was fan-favorite supergroup Pink Talking Fish, performing as “The Centennial Band.” Known for their masterful fusion of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish, the band delivered a marathon performance celebrating the artists and music that have filled The Capitol Theatre throughout its 100-year history. They opened with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the first song ever played at The Cap when the theater opened its doors in 1926, setting the stage for an unforgettable night that honored the past while celebrating the present.

They then dived into a medley of songs, all of which by performers who have graced the famed rock palace over the years, with plenty of special guests. Notable songs included Janis Joplin’s "Mercedes Benz,” “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers Band, “Gimme Shelter,” “Black Hole Sun,” “Closer To Fine,” “Divided Sky,” “All The Young Dudes” and much more!

The celebration was filled with memorable moments and surprises, including a confetti cannon at the beginning of the show, a balloon drop at the end of the show, an onstage aerialist, and an original Ringmaster circus intro from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s Greg Ormont, where he recited a rhyming poem noting the history of The Cap and all of the amazing artists who have played there. Around the venue were stilt walkers, a balloon animal artist making signature balloon squirrels, and free customized buttons marking the occasion.

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, The Capitol Theatre is located 30 miles from NYC, accessible via I-95 and the Port Chester Metro-North train station. Ushers In Scary Season With New Single “Ghost On the Moon”, Out Sept 25

Following a blockbuster summer bringing her Super Disco sci-fi DJ show to Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Lightning In a Bottle and more, drag icon and musical chameleon Trixie Mattel today announces ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, her forthcoming Halloween LP, set to drop October 2 on PEG Records (distributed by ADA/WMG and her publishing represented by Warner Chappell).

A return to her guitar-driven, folk-leaning roots, but with some modern flourishes, ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ is both sincere and seasonal – a fit for October as well as all year round. 

Trixie will give a sneak peek of the forthcoming album this Friday, September 25th, when the collection cut “Ghost On the Moon” drops across all DSPs. She will also celebrate the LP release with a Halloween performance special, set to launch on her YouTube channel October 5, and featuring some surprise celebrity cameos.

11th Season Includes Over 50 Outdoor Classical Piano Concerts Across The United States And Canada

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, acclaimed outdoor concert series IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ and pianist Hunter Noack announced a third Los Angeles show due to high demand, taking place in Bishop Canyon at Elysian Park on Friday, September 25. The previously announced performances at Griffith Park on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 are both sold out.

IN A LANDSCAPE reimagines the classical music experience by moving it beyond the traditional concert hall and into the outdoors. Mountain tops, old growth forests, and sunny meadows continue to replace the traditional concert hall as audiences listen through wireless headphones, wandering afield with the music as a soundtrack to their experience. 

The Elysian Park performance will mark IN A LANDSCAPE’s first Los Angeles performance, bringing the series to one of the city’s oldest and most beloved public spaces. Established in 1886 as Los Angeles’ first municipal park, Elysian Park is known for its sprawling green spaces and panoramic views of the city skyline. The piano will be set up in Bishop Canyon, an especially scenic gathering place in the heart of Los Angeles.

This October will conclude Noack’s landmark 11th season traveling across the American West and Canada with a 1912 Steinway Model D piano. IN A LANDSCAPE has visited a variety of breathtaking settings across western America this season, including Banff Centre, The Sea Ranch, San Francisco Botanical Garden, Black Butte Ranch, Schweitzer Mountain, and Seattle’s Mercer Island. About John Coltrane

John Coltrane (1926–1967) was one of the most transformative artists in the history of modern music. A saxophonist, composer, and bandleader of singular vision, he expanded the expressive possibilities of jazz while establishing music as a vehicle for spiritual inquiry and human connection. The ten-song album, recorded mostly live in the studio, gathers musicians and traditions that have shaped Giddens across more than two decades into the same room. Recorded at The Cypress House in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, Hope Is the Thing with Feathershighlights the magic of people making music together. Musicians speak, stomp, listen and respond to one another in real time, making the room itself part of the record.

The result is a living map of the expansive American musical story Giddens has spent her career bringing into fuller view. Old songs live next to new ones. Rather than treating tradition as something fixed in the past, Giddens shows it as a language that continues to move, change and become something new.

“Louisiana, the Congo, Italy, the Carolinas—all of these influences and people coming together to make something: that is American music,” says Giddens. “It’s how American music came to be, and that was the original thought of creating a band with the musicians that I’ve been playing with for years, and featured on this album.”

Giddens, a North Carolina native who lives much of the year in Ireland, performs lead vocals, minstrel banjo and fiddle. She is joined by a circle of longtime collaborators that reflects the breadth of her musical life, including Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu, longtime bassist Jason Sypher, and Louisiana musician Dirk Powell, who co-produced, engineered and mixed the album with Giddens. The record also reunites her with fellow North Carolinian Justin Robinson, her first bandmate and fellow founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and with members of Giddens’ family.

On Hope Is the Thing with Feathers, original material sits beside songs inherited from artists whose work helped shape Giddens’ own. “Carolina Rain,” written by Giddens and Powell, draws listeners into the album’s world, while her interpretation of North Carolina icon Elizabeth Cotten’s “Freight Train” reduces the song to its elemental core: Giddens’ voice and Powell’s acoustic guitar. She also turns to Ola Belle Reed’s “High on a Mountain,” Pura Fé’s “Going Home” and traditional material including “Cluck Old Hen” and “Walk with Me,” the latter sung with her sister Lalenja Harrington.

The album takes its name from Emily Dickinson’s poem “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers,” but its sense of hope is rooted firmly in the tangible: people finding one another, carrying histories forward and creating something together. In many ways, the record distills the story Giddens has been telling throughout her career: that American music is far larger, Blacker and more interconnected than the traditional canon has often allowed. If much of her work has been devoted to recovering histories that were overlooked or erased, Hope Is the Thing with Feathers asks what happens when those histories are allowed to live together in the present.

Earlier this week, Giddens also announced a new run of 2027 tour dates, with stops in Brooklyn, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and more. Tickets for the newly announced dates go on sale today, September 18, at 10am local time. Full routing is listed below.

The album arrives amid an extraordinary period of creative expansion for Giddens. She served as a music consultant and contributed original music to Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, created new music for Ken Burns’ PBS documentary The American Revolution and co-authored Go Back and Fetch It: Recovering Early Black Music in the Americas for Fiddle and Banjo with historian Kristina R. Gaddy. She also recently launched the Biscuits & Banjos Foundation, expanding the mission behind her sold-out Durham festival into a nonprofit celebrating the African diaspora’s role in shaping American culture, and will make her leading-role film debut in the forthcoming An Ode To Mary Jowhile continuing her work as Artistic Director of the Silkroad Ensemble.

That work extends into the public sphere this weekend, as Giddens joins Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi as one of its featured artists. Presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Walk Productions and KBH Arts, the monumental free public art project will send a herd of 40 life-size buffalo puppets through the streets of Lower Manhattan on September 18 and Downtown Brooklyn on September 19, accompanied by artistic activations along the routes. Created by Amir Nizar Zuabi in partnership with Elders from Lenape and Lakota communities, the project brings artists, tribal leaders and communities together around public memory, land and cultural history.

About Rhiannon Giddens

Rhiannon Giddens has made a singular, iconic career out of stretching her brand of folk music, with its miles-deep historical roots and contemporary sensibilities, into just about every field imaginable. A two-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer and multi-instrumentalist, MacArthur “Genius” grant recipient, Pulitzer Prize winner, and composer of opera, ballet, and film, Giddens has centered her work around the mission of lifting up people whose contributions to American musical history have previously been overlooked or erased, and advocating for a more accurate understanding of the country’s musical origins through art.

Giddens has released three previous albums under her own name and two in collaboration with Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, all on Nonesuch Records. American Railroad, her first album in collaboration with the Silkroad Ensemble, was released by the label in November 2024. A collaboration with Justin Robinson, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, was released by Nonesuch in April 2025.

A founding member of the landmark Black string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, and the all-female banjo supergroup, Our Native Daughters, Giddens is as much a curator as a creator. She is the current Artistic Director of the Yo-Yo Ma-founded Silkroad Ensemble, hosted a TV show on PBS, My Music with Rhiannon Giddens, and has hosted two podcasts (Aria Code from New York City’s NPR affiliate station WQXR, which ran for three seasons, and American Railroad from Silkroad). Giddens has published two children's books and written and performed music for the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption II, one of the best-selling video games of all time. She was a music consultant for 2025’s landmark film Sinners, and appeared as a recurring cast member on ABC's hit drama Nashville and as a music history expert on Ken Burns’ Country Music series on PBS. In 2025, she launched her own music festival in Durham, NC called Biscuits & Banjos, to celebrate Black culture outside the mainstream, and in 2026 she turned that initiative into a Foundation to house her mission-based work, the Biscuits and Banjos Foundation.

As Pitchfork once said, “few artists are so fearless and so ravenous in their exploration”—a journey that has led to NPR naming her one of its 25 Most Influential Women Musicians of the 21st Century and to American Songwriter calling her “one of the most important musical minds currently walking the planet.”

Today (9.18), Katie Pruitt – one of the most emotionally fearless voices in modern Americana and indie-folk – shares her new album, Fools for the Fleeting via Rounder Records.

Produced by Isaiah Beard, Fools for the Fleeting showcases Pruitt's introspective songwriting and signature blend of alternative country and folk-rock. With themes of nature ("Orions Belt"), natural disasters both physical and metaphorical ("Blackout," "The Aftermath"), heartbreak ("Matching Tattoos") and untethering oneself from technology and distraction in favor of human connection ("Little Boxes"), the 10-track album finds Pruitt digging into the impermanence that comes with being human.

September 18, 2026: Today, legendary songwriter Bernie Taupin shares “Come On California,” a sweeping new single featuring Brandi Carlile and a deeply personal love letter to the place he has called home for more than five decades. The track arrives just days after Taupin and Carlile took the stage together in Nashville for the 2026 AMERICANAFEST Keynote Conversation, part of Taupin’s first-ever appearance at the festival. “Come On California” appears on his forthcoming album, The Sea Has No Mercy, out October 23 via Vertigo Recordsand MCA Nashville.

Taupin first arrived in Los Angeles in 1970 as a wide-eyed 20-something, beginning a relationship with California that would become inseparable from his life and work. “Come On California” looks back across the decades that followed, capturing the places, relationships and music that shaped him through the ecstatic rush of memory.

“It’s intensely personal,” says Taupin. “California is in my blood. I’ve spent so much of my life here and seen so many different relationships during that time. And ultimately, the relationship that changed my life, which is the one the song is about. The line, ‘California, turn your radio on’ is LA to me – driving down Highway 101 in a rented Mustang, listening to the radio. This song is me listening to my own songs on the radio, and being able to program what I hear.”

Joining Taupin on the track is Brandi Carlile, who he calls “an extraordinary singer and an extraordinary human being – I love her to death and what she did on this song was generous to a fault.”

“When I put pen to paper as a child it was because of the lyrics Bernie Taupin has given us,” says Carlile of the collaboration. “I dreamed that one day I might meet him and that with a little luck we might even write a song together. What I never imagined was that I’d get to sing with Bernie Taupin. That was beyond my wildest dreams. How wonderful life is.”

The collaboration arrives on the heels of a milestone week for Taupin, who made his AMERICANAFEST debut in Nashville. On Wednesday, September 16, he joined Carlile for the festival’s 2026 Keynote Conversation, an intimate, moderator-free discussion exploring songwriting, collaboration, artistic longevity and storytelling. Taupin also took the stage at the Americana Honors & Awards at the historic Ryman Auditorium, where he presented the Song of the Year Award to Carlile for “Returning to Myself."

“Come On California” offers another window into the personal storytelling at the heart of The Sea Has No Mercy, Taupin’s first solo album in almost 40 years and the first album he has entirely self-written. Across its 10 songs, he draws on 76 years of lived experience to look back on the people, places and experiences that have shaped him.

Recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell, the album features Taupin alongside guitarist Adam Wright, bassist Glen Worf and keyboard player Michael Rojas, collectively nicknamed The Tennessee Stone Cutters. In addition to Carlile, the album features guest vocals from Taupin’s daughter Georgey Devon Taupin, with contributions from Lee Ann Womack, the Jeremy Jordan Ensemble and percussionist Jay Bellerose.

Taupin says, “I couldn’t have made this album as a younger man. I couldn’t have written any of these songs. They’re all completely indicative of Bernie Taupin at 76-years-old. They need the life behind them. Everything on this record is hugely personal. Every single line, every word, means something to me, whether from a past, present or storytelling perspective.”

The album was inspired by Taupin’s acclaimed 2023 autobiography Scattershot and a retrospective documentary that has been in development for several years, with all three projects innately interlinked.

The expansive collection of recordings that captures John Coltrane and Miles Davis’ legendary collaborations between 1955 and 1961 will be reissued in 9LP and 6CD sets, in honor of Davis and Coltrane’s centennials this year. Produced by Michael Cuscuna and Bob Belden, Miles Davis & John Coltrane - The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961 won two GRAMMYs (Best Boxset or Limited Edition Package and Best Liner Notes) and was only released on vinyl in a super limited edition via Mosaic Records. Now available widely for the first time, the 9LP includes vinyl of Mark Wilder’s remixed and remastered audio from 2000 cut directly from the analog tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.
