23 decorated artists from 17 countries. Larry Klein, who was just nominated for a Producer of the Year GRAMMY, in the producer and artistic director seat. An A-list house band of highly accomplished musicians. All assembled together at Studio La Fabrique in the south of France over 12 days to make an album of original new songs. This is Same Sky, a first-of-its-kind music project designed to celebrate the most essential elements of artistic creativity by looking far beyond borders. It has been created as the definitive global music album and will be released on August 23 via the Beyond Foundation’s BEYOND MUSIC initiative.

Same Sky first began via an online platform, BEYOND MUSIC (www.beyondmusic.org), created by the Swiss non-profit Beyond Foundation. Professional artists from across the globe were encouraged to create a new song with musicians they’d never met, sharing ideas and collaborating remotely on the platform. From 110 submissions, 10 winning songs were selected by BEYOND MUSIC artistic director Larry Klein and flown to France, joined by Klein and a crack studio band. From April 24-May 4 of 2019 they recorded the album together. The cast of musicians also became fast friends – singing and dancing together, huddled in corners of the studio to capture fresh ideas from this ultimate creative spark.

The artists hail from Argentina, Armenia, Belgium, Cameroon, Congo, Denmark, Egypt, India, Iraq, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, Tanzania, and USA. Together they’ve created a fascinating fusion of musical ideas, and a dazzling array of cross-pollinations that truly transcend genres. “El Clavel Del Aire” features Latin GRAMMY nominee Mariana Baraj and Msafiri Zawose, son of the famous Hukwe Zawose, a combination of Spanish, Swahili and English vocals and musical elements from Argentina and Tanzania. “Saat A’rahman” was penned by two Israeli musicians, the song set at a Yemenite wedding. “Water” features Sheryl Gambo, superstar from Congo – and joined by the Swiss flautist Sandro Friedrich and producer Eduard Glumov of Kazakhstan, winner of the Grand Prize of International Songwriting Competition in Nashville. Each song is incredibly rich with these blended cultural backgrounds and styles, a world music album full of surprises.   

The house band features: Dean Parks on guitars (Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Elton John, Madeleine Peyroux etc), Dan Lutz on bass (Lizz Wright, Melody Gardot, Thomas Dybdahl, Jonathan Butler), Adrian Utley on guitars (Portishead), Clive Deamer on drums (Radiohead), Manu Katché on drums (Sting, Peter Gabriel, Jeff Beck, Dire Straits, Afro-Celt Sound System etc), and Ed Harcourt on keybords (Patti Smith, Marianne Faithfull).

Same Sky was engineered by Maxime Le Guil and mixed by Tim Palmer, Stephen Lipson and Tchad Blake.

Says Larry Klein: “I believe that the Beyond project and Same Sky is a revolutionary idea. As far as I know nothing like it has been done before. You have collaborations that combine people from all over the world, flown to a specific place to make a record together… it’s an idea that goes completely contrary to what the trends are right now in the world.”

Larry Klein has 4 GRAMMY Awards and 8 nominations. He has worked with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Tracy Chapman, Madeleine Peyroux, Walter Becker, Luciana Souza, Melody Gardot, Pink, Seal, numerous albums with Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan, Don Henley, Warren Zevon, Celine Dion. He produced the Grammy 2007 Album Of The Year-winning, and Best Contemporary Jazz Album Of The Year, River: The Joni Letters with Herbie Hancock.

Regula Curti has created 4 spiritual music albums, each with platinum status, in collaboration with singers from 5 world religions together with Queen of Rock Tina Turner.
