5 Nights At Jazz At Lincoln Center For Genius Pianist Marcus Roberts And His New Big Band
Genius pianist Marcus Roberts is bringing his new 12-piece band, The Modern Jazz Generation -- with whom he recently released a double LP called 'Romance, Swing and the Blues' -- to Jazz at Lincoln Center for a 5-night residency from January 7-11. Marcus and The Modern Jazz Generation will perform selections from 'Romance' and more.
Featuring three generations of "serious jazz musicians," the Modern Jazz Generation flaunts its impressive range - fluid and expressive, restrained and playful - over a variety of jazz styles on the new LP as it explores a roller-coaster ride of romantic emotion.
Here's the Soundcloud to hear the double LP
In the past year Marcus has released 3 albums in addition to 'Romance' -- 2 of them alongside Wynton Marsalis -- and was profiled on 60 Minutes. Prior to that, he debuted his first-ever Concerto with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a piece he'd been working on for 20 years.
Watch Roberts recently profiled on '60 Minutes' here.
The Modern Jazz Generation features Marcus Roberts Trio members Jason Marsalis and Rodney Jordan, veterans Ron Westray, Marcus Printup and Stephen Riley and a bevy of young up-and-coming musicians making their name in the jazz world.
