Today, with the release of "No Juego" (feat. Angélica Garcia), the GRAMMY-winning, OSCAR-nominated Adrian Quesada shares the second star-studded and soul-stirring original single from his forthcoming LP, Boleros Psicodélicos II. Out June 27th on ATO Records, the album deepens Quesada's enduring mission to celebrate, preserve and reimagine the eccentric and unsung style of Latin American balada music that first emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but has influenced and enamored Quesada and countless others for decades. As the sequel to 2022's beloved Boleros Psicodélicos, Boleros Psicodélicos II arrives on the heels of a 2025 Academy Award nomination for the Texas producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and Black Pumas co-founder, while further showing how he has "raised the bar for Latin alternative artistry" (Los Angeles Times). Collaborating with pop auteur Angélica Garcia, and a completely stacked cast of Latin vocalists and visionaries whose work spans culture, countries and generations, Boleros Psicodélicos II also highlights the many ways in which Quesada acts as "a wizard of just finding the magical little sauce of each artist, and bringing it to the fore" (NPR's Alt.Latino). "It's like he's a musical therapist...There's really truly absolutely nothing I'm convinced that Adrian Quesada cannot do."
Listen to "No Juego," and watch Angélica Garcia and Adrian Quesada star in the song's music video, a staggering, sensuous and sublime tour de force directed by Amos David McKay: HERE
"Adrian is very precise in his attention to detail. His records have a warmth to them that I love," says Angélica Garcia. "'No Juego' is such a dramatic and theatrical song. I'm grateful that Adrian protected the intensity of the song, and I'm glad that he didn't ask me to tone it down. Sometimes you gotta be direct and talk your shit." Adrian Quesada adds,"'No Juego' was based off of an old demo I sent Angélica when making the first Boleros Psicodélicos. She reimagined it by chopping it up as if it were samples, and we were able to work together in the studio in LA to bring this one to life. Angélica is a musical force and it is always a pleasure to work with her as she brings everything to life, and the emotion is ripping through the speakers when she sings."
"No Juego" (feat. Angélica Garcia) follows lead single "Ojos Secos" (feat. Cuco), in which "Quesada and Cuco's take on this musical tradition is both buoyant and resigned" (AV Club). "As the Hitchhiker artist laments the loss of his 'eternal love' through song now that his 'dry eyes' can no longer shed tears." Like the first Boleros Psicodélicos, Boleros Psicodélicos II is a profoundly personal but vastly communal album that combines brand new, original music, with reinvented takes on classic baladas. Produced by Adrian Quesada and Alex Goose (Aaron Frazer, Childish Gambino), Boleros Psicodélicos II also features Chilean singer and songwriter Gepe, Cuban singer Daymé Arocena, Colombian gypsy-jazz combo Monsieur Periné, Chihuahua's lo-fi troubadour Ed Maverick, Swiss-Ecuadorian duo Hermanos Gutiérrez and more, as well as Puerto Rican vocalist and former Calle 13 member iLe.
Amplifying the music's intensity, and blending bolero signatures with hip-hop elements and heavy grooves that cut through the heady haze of heartbreak, Boleros Psicodélicos II is the start of something sprawling, fresh and far more expansive. While the first Boleros Psicodélicos led to performances for Austin City Limits and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and resonated with a global audience of vinyl enthusiasts begging for more, this spring, Boleros Psicodélicos II will introduce a wider world of listeners to a vital subgenre.
Beginning in May, Adrian Quesada will perform music from Boleros Psicodélicos on tour with Hermanos Gutiérrez, with shows at Miami's Fillmore, Austin's ACL Live, Los Angeles' Greek Theatre and more listed below, and on-sale at adrianquesada.net/tour.
