Today, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Amtrac released his shimmering new single “Heard Me Right”, a track off his long-awaited third album ‘Extra Time’ (out February 3rd via Openers). Pre-order HERE. The single is accompanied by a humorously offbeat and surreal music video shot in LA on vintage video tape. Feeling like a slice of VCR-quality nostalgia from the late 80s/early 90s era of music television, the video finds Caleb Cornett (aka Amtrac) running around LA, putting quarters in parking meters and joyfully dancing in the extra time it earns him. The release follows Amtrac’s notable collaborations with Future Islands’ Samuel T Herring on recent single “Domino” and Diplo and Leon Bridges on “High Rise”.

Listen to “Heard Me Right” HERE, and check out the video HERE.

Featuring Amtrac’s own vocals, “Heard Me Right” is a cut of pristine, shimmering throwback of the highest caliber featuring layer upon layer of gritty synths atop a pulsing backbeat. The video’s vintage aesthetic continues Amtrac’s long fascination with the iconic late-90s wave of groundbreaking electronic music visuals in the vein of pioneers like Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, Aphex Twin, and Prodigy.

Regarding the song and video, Amtrac cryptically alluded to the connection between the visuals and title of his forthcoming LP: “A man takes it upon himself to provide the people of greater Los Angeles with extra time. He can dance, he is strong, he has plenty of coins. Everyone could do with a little more extra time.

Amtrac announced his US Spring tour in support of his forthcoming album ‘Extra Time’ where he will be bringing his epic set to Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, Houston and several more. Full dates below. Tickets on sale today and you can find more info HERE.

Juxtaposed from his serene previous work, the forthcoming ‘Extra Time’ LP touches on the topic of the previous lockdown, while also having assertiveness and urgency within the music itself. It consists of a handcrafted fusion of delicate textures and gritty styles into an unfiltered sonic trip, with each song depicting the process of emotions during a time of uncertainty for the future. Previously released tracks like blissful “Contrast”, and the Samuel T. Herring-collaboration “Domino” showcase “a strong return” (Billboard) for an artist who has made a name for himself by fearlessly diving into the archives of our pop culture nostalgia to create tracks that feel affectionately familiar yet futuristically cutting-edge. Inspired by everything from the soundtrack to the 90s computer game “Grim Fandango”, to jazz legends like Miles Davis & Lonnie Liston Smith, to modern day fellow electronic pioneers such as Bonobo & Dan Snaith, Amtrac is helping redefine what it means to create electronic music in 2023.

Amtrac

The Kentucky-born and Los Angeles-based artist, DJ, producer, remixer, multi-instrumentalist, and founder of Openers made his formal debut onto the scene in 2011 with his acclaimed album Came Along. The album elevated the Morehead, KY native—born Caleb Cornett—to the cutting edge of electronic music. In its wake, he amassed an acclaimed catalog of originals and remixes. The multi-talented artist can electrify an audience, be it with a moving live music performance or by working dancefloors up to a sweat with his driving yet funk-filled DJ sets. Never content to settle, Amtrac’s musical mood and influences change with each passing season. His ambition and curiosity keep him locked on the edge, always happy to experiment with new techniques and sounds. His music is what he feels in the moment. Simply put, his constant evolution comes from a hatred of boredom and a love for his labor. It’s just not in his nature to stagnate.
