Amythyst Kiah Shares Final Preview From New Album Wary + Strange Before June 18th Release Via Rounder Records
“Fancy Drones (Fracture Me)” available everywhere now - here
Today (6.4), Amythyst Kiah -- “one of roots music’s most promising voices” (Rolling Stone) -- shares the final preview track from Wary + Strange, “Fancy Drones (Fracture Me).” Through producer Tony Berg’s masterful layering of bass harmonica, Mellotron and delicately haunting flute riffs, Amythyst longs for obliteration as she works through the monotony and numbness of everyday life. “We’re just fancy drones going through the motions,” she sings. “Fracture me, take what you need, ‘cause it hurts to think.”
“Fancy Drones (Fracture Me)” is the album’s fourth preview track, following the release of “Hangover Blues,” “Wild Turkey,” and the album’s lead single “Black Myself,” which Garden & Gun recently likened to the unforgettable musical moments of greats like Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone; artists who “soundtrack a movement and become a force of change.” From embracing Black identity as an artist to overcoming the social anxiety, grief and alienation that defined her formative years, Wary + Strangemasterfully recounts the pivotal moments in a life ultimately defined by reclamation and self acceptance.
In other recent news, Amythyst has earned three Americana Music Award Nominations, tying Jason Isbell for the most nominations earned by any artist this year. She’s nominated for Emerging Act of the Year, Song of the Year, for the solo rendition of her Grammy-nominated song “Black Myself,” and Duo/Group of the Year as part of the all-women-of-color supergroup, Our Native Daughters.
