“Impressive and courageous...Both albums serve as credible witnesses to two primary elements at work: Andrew Marlin’s incredible range as an artist and the excellence of this gathered musical community.”

— No Depression

Today, Andrew Marlin — who’s risen to prominence with his acclaimed folk duo Mandolin Orange — releases Fable & Fire, an album that reflects on the storm of the last year with an introspective grandeur and epic soundscapes. Recorded at Asheville, NC’s Echo Mountain Studio, this is an album that, despite being instrumental, finds Marlin in as vulnerable a headspace as ever as he ponders loved ones since past, childhood innocence and the collective trauma of the past year.

Says Marlin about Fable & Fire: “Amidst global trauma, it’s difficult to feel like your own experience is unique and relevant. The record is a sonic account of how the journey within has no destination. It’s like looking at the stars and knowing you’ll never touch them, or believing in magic and seeing it for what it isn’t. This is my most honest work to date and without saying anything it somehow says it all.”

Fable & Fire follows the release of Witching Hour earlier this month. Both records indicate this as an incredibly fertile period for Marlin’s songwriting. No Depression describes them as “impressive and courageous” and that “both albums serve as credible witnesses to two primary elements at work: Andrew Marlin’s incredible range as an artist and the excellence of this gathered musical community.”

Witching Hour and Fable & Fire follow the runaway success of Mandolin Orange’s 2019 album Tides Of A Teardrop, which lead to the band’s first ever national TV performances on CBS Saturday and the TODAY Show as well as an NPR Tiny Desk.
