Asleep At The Wheel and Ray Benson Host The Texas Dance Hall Tour Nov. 1-4, 2018
Central Market and The Texas Dance Hall Preservation present four days of the Texas Dance Hall experience to entertain, educate and engage the public around Texas’ cultural and musical heritage
Gruene Hall | Albert Ice House | Quihi Dance Hall | Twin Sisters Dance Hall
Hosted by Asleep at the Wheel & Ray Benson and presented by Central Market and The Texas Dance Hall Preservation, The Texas Dance Hall Tour has set out to bring you the truest form of the Texas Dance Hall experience. The event is a four-day weekend featuring the best in Texas music.
The Texas Dance Hall Tour aims to entertain, educate and engage the public around Texas’ cultural and musical heritage filled with historic dance halls. In the late 1800s and into the early 1900s, dance halls flourished, and at one time, there were more than 1,000 halls in Texas. Although there are now fewer than 400 remaining, there are more historic dance halls in the state of Texas than anywhere in the country. They represent authentic music, culture, and history.
“There wouldn’t be Texas music without our Texas dance halls. They’re like the Carnegie Hall of Western Swing and Texas Music! This is where Bob Wills, Willie Nelson and George Strait cut their teeth. We are losing these establishments and need to support the communities and these establishments.” – Ray Benson
