This month, New York City’s iconic Blue Note Jazz Club, in partnership with The Rhythm Foundation, is celebrating the return of live music via a limited series of shows in Miami Beach. Taking place on weekends from June 5 - June 26, 2021, the North Beach Bandshell will host performances by Arturo SandovalRobert GlapserBig Freediaand The Soul Rebels featuring Cimafunk.

10x-Grammy Award winner, 6x-Billboard Award winner, Emmy Award recipient and 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Arturo Sandoval inaugurates the concert series on June 5 and June 6. One of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer, the Cuban-American artist is one of the most dynamic and vivacious live performers of our time.

Robert Glasper, a pianist and producer who seamlessly integrates jazz, hip-hop and R&B into dynamic compositions, will perform on June 12. To date, he boasts 3 Grammy wins and 8 nominations across 6 categories, as well as an Emmy Award with Common for “Letter to the Free,” which was featured in Ava Duvernay’s critically hailed documentary 13th. Glasper is also set to perform at Blue Note’s Jazz Festival in NYC this summer.

On June 26, the musical and cultural ties between Havana and New Orleans are honored. Big Freedia, known for her high-energy sound and LGBTQ-empowering anthems, makes her only Miami-area Pride Month appearance. The global ambassador for bounce music has collaborated with Beyonce, Drake, Lizzo, and most recently Lady Gaga. The bill is rounded out with a performance from The Soul Rebels, an iconic group that has reinvented the traditional New Orleans brass sound. They’ll be joined by Cuban special guest Cimafunk, who they recently collaborated with on the critically acclaimed single "Caliente.”

Blue Note will adhere to the reopening guidelines as set forth by the City of Miami, Florida State, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). These shows will be presented in-person to a limited audience with COVID-19 protocols in place. North Beach Bandshell is open air (covered with a canopy), mask-wearing is encouraged, as per CDC guidance.
