'Bluesify' App Helps Spotify Users Navigate the Blues

Spotify users can now navigate the vast world of blues music effortlessly with "Bluesify," the new app from X5 Music Group. Bluesify does for blues what X5’s "Classify" app has done for classical music — help Spotify users browse an expansive and often overwhelming genre, making the discovery of new music easy and enjoyable.

Classify has become the world's biggest classical community since its launch last year, with 100,000 monthly users and 348,000 app downloads. Out of the 100-plus apps on Spotify, it's the 14th most-installed, and tracks featured on the platform have seen growth of as much as 3400% on Spotify. As one of the internet's top classical-music discovery portals, Classify features more than 1,500 customized playlists and albums across the entire classical canon, from arias to symphonies to Gregorian chants, and has led completely new target groups to discover the music.

Similarly, Bluesify — the first in a series of apps X5 has planned for 2013 — is introducing one of America’s richest musical traditions to a new generation of listeners, while helping dedicated blues fans discover Spotify’s deeper cuts. The app is especially helpful for listeners outside of the U.S., many of whom have no prior knowledge of blues music. More than 1,000 playlists and albums curated by blues experts span every form and era of the genre, from pre-war blues and '30s Delta blues to '50s Chicago blues and modern blues rock, helping listeners discover the world of american blues in seconds.

"Spotify is our fastest growing digital partner, up 300% in the last 12 months, and we've seen that albums promoted on the platform jump in digital sales, so an app that helps users browse and discover music in new ways is a win for everyone," says CEO/Co-Founder Johan Lagerlof. "Getting started with blues music can be intimidating, but Bluesify takes the fear out of exploring the genre."

For X5, a Stockholm-based digital-music pioneer that made its name in classical music, Classify was a logical first step into music apps. The launch of Bluesify now underscores the success of the company’s U.S. expansion in 2009 and advances its mission to bring listeners great music, regardless of genre or industry boundaries. Since expanding beyond classical, X5 has secured deals with some of the most-respected labels in the world, including Sun Records, Verve Music Group, Blue Note Records, Alligator Records, and Vanguard Records.
