Bösendorfer Pianist Serene Tours Coast to Coast, Combining Late 19th-century Virtuosity with Roaring 20s Optimism

Bösendorfer pianist Serene will perform in major US markets coast to coast with a repertoire that revolves around the waltz to end all waltzes, Maurice Ravel’s La Valse. The work dates back to the aftermath of the First World War and 1918 into the early 20’s: a time removed, yet resonant with the tribulations of today.

Serene will revisit familiar venues like the Zellerbach Garden in Golden Gate Park, and will perform by candlelight in the Church of the Heavenly Rest. See her traverse the lifecycle of musical aesthetics in western civilization: from Liszt’s virtuoso “Rhapsodie Espagnole,'' to Russian jazz composer Kapustin’s Op. 40, to the works of George Gershwin. Once a Google software engineer and researcher, Serene has built an unlikely trajectory for her spiritual approach to music.
