Boyish Announce Release Date For Gun, Debut Album Arriving September 12th

New Single Opens The Entrance To Surreal Town Of Their Creation, Produced with Loren Humphrey (Cameron Winter, Lana Del Rey) & Out Today via Record Label R&R (Dijon, Mk.gee): "BIG"

The Gun Show Heads To LA's Troubadour & NYC's Bowery Ballroom, Following European Tour This Fall

Today, Boyish reveal the release date for their debut album, set in a surreal town of their creation: Gun. Out September 12th on the record label R&R (Dijon, Mk.gee), these 11 songs together encompass a devastating love story and self-contained universe, marking both an intrepid new chapter and colossal leap forward for Boyish’s India Shore and Claire Altendahl, who got their start in Brooklyn, NY, rehearsing above a strip club called Pumps. Until now, the band had self-produced their entire discography, but Gunintroduces "the lushest they've ever sounded" (Stereogum), as the album was made in collaboration with producer Loren Humphrey (Cameron Winter, Lana Del Rey), and recorded to two-inch tape during two uncanny months spent in Tuxedo Park, NY.

Following lead single "Jumbos," which aired on BBC Radio 1 alongside a Future Artists interview from Sian Eleri, Boyish have shared "BIG," pummeling listeners deeper down the rabbit hole and further into a world beyond reality. The guitars are massive, the drums are pulverizing, and the vocals soar into a ghostly overture of strings, surrounding you in a murky atmosphere where the air is thick and time is indefinite. The first and fastest song written for the album, "BIG" is the entry point to the town of Gun, best experienced beside the heat of a blazing, volcanic bonfire, as seen in the accompanying video from Ben Turok (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Mk.gee), filmed over two twelve-hour shoots on a sprawling upstate farm.

Gun is not a pro-gun album, but a pro-Gun album. It is a physical setting and intangible destination, built by the strange experiences Boyish had while driving across middle-of-nowhere USA over the past three years – from the apparition of a woman with a huge magical staff, winking in a Wyoming rest stop, to capturing their best takes after daily trips to Dunkin’. Inspired by BadlandsClose Encounters of the Third KindFlashdanceThelma & Louise and Twin Peaks, the idea of Gun came to India Shore while she was bedridden for three months, having broken her leg in a freak surfing accident. By restricting themselves to the same five instruments for the whole record, they pushed the boundless limits of their imagination, and by the time the final song ends, it becomes clear that something in them and this town have changed forever.

Since forming Boyish as a pandemic project, self-producing projects in their apartment on their laptop, Boyish have quickly been called "the next big thing in the queer indie scene" (Billboard). Boyish have now collaborated with King Princess and Rachel Chinouriri, toured with The Beaches, Claud, Hippo Campus and spill tab, appeared on a compilation record alongside Taylor Swift, Julien Baker and Girl in Red, and were named winners of the LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Award, all while amassing more than 30 million streams across their acclaimed and growing catalog. "Boyish makes music to soundtrack everything from a bad breakup to late night drives and rainy day adventures," says Pigeons & Planes. "They have music to scream to and music to cry to." On Gun, however, they pull listeners to a darker and more delirious space than ever before. Watch the album trailer HERE.

This fall, Boyish will bring their Gun Show to a headline European tour, followed by performances at Los Angeles’ Troubadour on October 22nd, and New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on November 6th. Find the list of dates below, and tickets HERE
