Less than three weeks before the release of his upcoming album ‘Out of the Blues’ (July 27/Concord), Boz Scaggs has unveiled a stirring version of Neil Young’s classic cut “On the Beach.” Through Young’s melancholy lyrics, Boz explores the downside of fame and wonders just what it would take to get away from it all. “On the Beach” is a fascinating inclusion on Boz’s blues-heavy upcoming release: a song that’s certainly got the blues, but of the more existential kind.

Says Boz to Rolling Stone about the track, “’On the Beach’ is new form blues poetry… While not strictly blues changes it’s harmonically gorgeous, wistful in its minor bluesy way and like any great blues, a lament for all times by a master; it comes in waves.”

‘On the Beach’ is the third song from ‘Out of the Blues’ that Boz has released, following the new Jack Walroth original “Rock and Stick” and a smoldering cover of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I’ve Just Got To Forget You.”

The self-produced 'Out of the Blues' features Scaggs applying his iconic voice and gritty guitar skills to a set of vintage classics by such blues greats as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy Reed and Magic Sam, and original compositions by his friend and songwriter Jack Walroth. For the occasion, Scaggs assembled a star-studded studio band including guitarists Doyle Bramhall II, Ray Parker Jr. and Charlie Sexton, bassist Willie Weeks, drummer Jim Keltner, keyboardist Jim Cox, and Walroth on harmonica, all supporting Boz himself on guitar, bass and vocoder.
