Brandon Boyd Unveils Sons Of The Sea
Compass EP Out 6/25, Hear First Song at RollingStone.com: http://rol.st/11Utixb
Brandon Boyd, frontman of multi-platinum rock band Incubus, will debut a new musical project called Sons of the Sea with a four song EP titled ‘Compass’ out digitally on June 25th. Co-written and recorded with longtime Incubus producer Brendan O'Brien, (Pearl Jam, The Killers, Rage Against the Machine) the four songs on ‘Compass’ are colored by the sunny harmonies and quirky chords of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Centered on piano and guitar and brimming with strings, bells, organs and retro synth, ‘Compass’ recalls the sound of songwriting greats like The Beach Boys and Harry Nilsson while still hinting at the alternative rock Boyd has pioneered over two decades with Incubus. The work is quintessential Boyd, from the maritime imagery (a staple theme of his) in opener “Space & Time” to the witty observation about a paramour’s smoking habits in “Lady Black” (“she rolls her own / I should’ve known”). “Come Together,” with its four-on-the-floor beat and swelling strings, sees Boyd’s work at its most danceable, while the ebullient outro of “Where All The Songs Come From” brings to mind The Flaming Lips.
In recent years, Boyd, who co-founded Incubus in 1991, has focused on building a body of work that also includes visual art and writing. An activist environmentalist, and avid surfer, Boyd released his solo debut, ‘The Wild Trapeze,’ under his own name in 2010, and will publish his third book of paintings titled ‘So The Echo,’ concurrently with ‘Sons of The Sea’.
Sons of the Sea will be distributed by INgrooves and marketing will be executed by the company's in-house Artist Service division, INresidence. A full-length album of the same name will be released in Fall 2013.
