NPR SLINGSHOT ARTIST DEBUTS LEAD SINGLE "KEEP MOVING" TODAY

Brent Cowles scribbled the phrase 'How To Be Okay Alone' in a notebook one day, hoping he'd find the answer. The question arose after a period of intense change: his teenage marriage had ended before he reached twenty, his first band had dissolved, and he was living out of his Chevy Tahoe, barely able to make ends meet. In the midst of these hardships, Brent went through a period of self-examination that resulted in his debut album 'How To Be Okay Alone' (6/15, Dine Alone Records) - a raucous yet reflective 10-song collection that deals with love, loneliness and community. "I realized then that I actually didn't know how to be okay alone," reflects Cowles, "But I also realized that it was okay not to know."

Today, Brent has released "Keep Moving," the first single from 'How To Be Okay Alone.' Baeble called the song "an Americana-tinged rock gem." Listen here.

Brent recorded 'How To Be Okay Alone' with producer Joe Richmond (Tennis, Nathaniel Rateliff) over six days at a tiny Airbnb in an isolated stretch of Joshua Tree. The album is Brent's first solo full-length, following releases by his former band You, Me & Apollo.

A native of Colorado Springs, CO, Brent grew up the son of a preacher, attending youth mission trips and frequent church services, though he admits, "I never really felt like I fit into that world." Nevertheless, Brent's music feels spiritual - in his own words, "music can touch the soul, and my church is a cold beer while fishing."

'How To Be Okay Alone' opens with a wallop - the rousing, stacked harmony anthem "The Fold" - and never lets up from there. Deeply honest and intensely personal throughout, the record channels loss and anxiety into triumph, ultimately striking that elusive balance between independence and community. "After broken bones I / Still don't know / How to be okay alone," Brent sings, but it's clear that he's ultimately come to understand this as a strength rather than a weakness.

Brent Cowles' debut EP 'Cold Times' made fans of Paste and NPR, who chose him as a 2018 Slingshot artist and praised him for his "high-energy, thoughtful rock 'n' roll." He's toured and played shows with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Leon Bridges and Tennis, and he'll tour extensively in support of 'How To Be Okay Alone,' including performances at SXSW next week.
