June, 04 2014 (New York, New York) – Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, Chef Aarón Sánchez, Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Paul McCartney, Zac Brown Band and other activists are teaming up with WhyHunger, a leader in the fight against hunger and poverty, to kick off the Summer Meals Rock for Kids campaign to raise funds and awareness to fight childhood hunger in the U.S. this summer.

Bruce Springsteen officially kicked off the campaign by launching an auction for tickets and E Street Lounge passes to select dates on his High Hopes tour, raising over $41,000 to date.  Springsteen is also supporting WhyHunger through a limited edition “Born To Run” t-shirt that is co-branded with WhyHunger and is being sold on tour and via his online store.

“We are thrilled to have so many artists, activists and friends rallying around the Summer Meals Rock for Kids campaign to ensure that all kids have access to healthy meals to keep their bodies and minds active this summer,” said Bill Ayres, co-founder and executive director of WhyHunger. “We believe that everyone, especially our children, should have the right to nutritious food and are fighting for a day when every American has that right.”

The campaign runs all summer long and offers fans the opportunity to bid on tickets, meet and greets and exclusive experiences with their favorite musicians and chefs to raise funds for WhyHunger’s work to connect children in need with free, nutritious meals.  Participating artists include:

Childhood hunger in the U.S. spikes during the summer months when the millions of kids who rely on free and reduced school meals during the year are left without adequate food during summer vacation.  WhyHunger teams up with dozens of national and community-based partners and the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Services to ensure kids have access to nutritious meals all summer long.

Through the National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY) and online resources directory (Link to Find Food) WhyHunger helps families across the U.S. connect to free summer feeding sites in their neighborhoods so their kids have access to nutritious food during the summer months. Year-round the National Hunger Hotline connects people in need to food pantries, soup kitchens and government nutrition programs across the U.S. If you or someone you know is in need of nutritious food, please call 1-866-3-HUNGRY, 1-877-8Hambre or visit www.whyhunger.org/findfood
