Cassandra Wilson's New Album 'Coming Forth By Day' Out Today On Billie Holiday's 100th Birthday

Cassandra Wilson's otherworldly homage to Billie Holiday, Coming Forth By Day (Legacy Recordings) is out today, what would have been the singer's 100th birthday, and it's receiving raves from the New York Times, NPR Music, USA Today, New Yorker and more. Boston Globe says Coming Forth By Day is "the rare tribute album that surpasses its source material and stands on its own as an original work of art." Wilson helped induct Holiday into The Apollo Theater's Walk of Fame last night and will headline The Apollo Theatre for the first time ever this Friday.

Together with producer Nick Launay (known for his work with Nick Cave), T Bone Burnett and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), string arranger Van Dyke Parks, the rhythm section from The Bad Seeds and longtime collaborators Jon Cowherd on piano and Kevin Breit on guitar, Wilson chose songs that span Holiday's abbreviated career to probe beyond her tragedy and honor her beauty, genius and craft.
