Center For Italian Modern Art Announces Spring Programming Line-Up Sponsored By Christie’s
Season Includes Conversations On Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Dine, Frank O’Hara, And Larry RiversCIMA’S EXHIBITION FACING AMERICA: MARIO SCHIFANO, 1960-65 EXTENDED THROUGH NOVEMBER 13TH, 2021
Today, The Center For Italian Art announces its Spring programming tied to their new exhibition “Facing America: Mario Schifano, 1960-65.” Sponsored by Christie’s, this programming schedule further cements CIMA as an organization that situates Italian modern art in an expansive historic and cultural context, illuminating its continuing relevance to contemporary culture. Additionally, “Facing America: Mario Schifano, 1960-65” has been officially extended to November 13, 2021. Hyperallergic says the show is an “eye-opener” and that Schifano is “a major figure just beginning to get his due.”

SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG
• SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG will feature a talk by Julia Blaut, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation with the participation of “Facing America” curator Francesco Guzzetti.
• This lecture and Q&A, part of a broader series titled Schifano and Friends, will cover the Italian artist’s familiarity with Robert Rauschenberg and the impact that his work had on Schifano’s aesthetic sensibility.

SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: DACIA MARAINI
• SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: DACIA MARAINI will feature a conversation between Italian writer Dacia Maraini and The Center for Italian Art’s esteemed fellows.
• This conversation and Q&A, part of a broader series titled Schifano and Friends, will explore Maraini’s long friendship with Mario Schifano, and the poem and interview that she dedicated to the painter over the years.

SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: HOLLY MILLER
• This conversation between abstract artist Holly Miller and CIMA fellows will cover Miller's friendship with the Italian artist and the impact that Schifano's aesthetic sensibility had on her work.
• The conversation and Q&A, part of a broader series featuring art historians, writers, curators, and artists, highlights thematic and aesthetic intersections between the work of Mario Schifano and his American peers.

BOOK PRESENTATION: GIORGIA GASTALDON
• Giorgia Gastaldon, Ph.D., in conversation with CIMA Fellows. Dr. Gastaldon will discuss her new book, the first comprehensive monograph on Mario Schifano's early work (1958-1964).

• SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: JIM DINE will feature a lecture by Daniela Lancioni, Senior Curator, Palazzo Delle Esposizioni, Rome, with the participation of “Facing America” curator Francesco Guzzetti.
• This talk and Q&A, part of a broader series titled Schifano and Friends, will explore the relationship between Jim Dine’s work and that of Mario Schifano.

• This talk and Q&A, part of a broader series titled Schifano and Friends, will explore the relationship between poet Frank O’Hara’s work and that of Mario Schifano.

• SCHIFANO AND FRIENDS: LARRY RIVERS will feature a talk by David Joel, Executive Director of the Larry Rivers Foundation with the participation of “Facing America” curator Francesco Guzzetti.
• The talk will focus on the life and art of Larry Rivers while looking at connections to Mario Schifano's art.
