Chance the Rapper’s Concert Film, MAGNIFICENT COLORING WORLD, Premieres Today in the U.K., Canada, and Ireland at Select Theatres

“Chance the Rapper’s ‘Magnificent Coloring World,’ [is] a unique, ultra-cool, visually striking and musically uplifting journey, every inch of it with a pure Chicago vibe. Conceived and written by Chance and directed with cinematic style and a smooth, flowing rhythm by Jake Schreier, ‘Magnificent Coloring World’ is not a filmed concert but a mapped-out, intricately planned concert film, and the difference is striking.”

– The Chicago Sun-Times, Richard Roeper

Today, Chance the Rapper premieres his critically acclaimed concert film Magnificent Coloring World in the U.K., Canada, and Ireleand – which released in the U.S. last month. For a limited time this month, fans can catch the film in person at select ODEON Cinemas (a subsidiary of AMC Theatres) throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, including London and several other cities. Directed by Jake Shreier (Robot & FrankPaper Towns), and featuring a stage and sound design like none other, Magnificent Coloring World is the feel-good movie and music ticket of the summer. The concert film is self-distributed through Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks production company and film house and marks the first time an artist has independently distributed a film through AMC Theatres. Staying true to his independent artistry, Chance wrote, produced, starred in, edited and distributed Magnificent Coloring Worldhimself. He spent much of his time at home over the last year, working hard to bring this never-before-seen footage to light in the way that it should be seen. Filmed in 2017 on the heels of Chance taking home 3 GRAMMY Awards for his critically-acclaimed mixtape ‘Coloring Book’, Magnificent Coloring World transports viewers into the front row of a Chance the Rapper concert. Amidst a monumental arena tour, Chance invited a select group of his biggest Chicago-area fans to an undisclosed event. Fans showed up to a meeting spot and were brought by school bus to Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, where they were surprised to enter a secret Chance the Rapper concert. Over the course of an hour, Chance ripped through his hit catalog, performing songs from Coloring Book and Acid Rap for the enthusiastic crowd.

This is not the typical documentation of a concert, which is then later packaged to be a concert movie. Instead, Chance knew ahead of time that he wanted to create a special cinematic experience. He arranged the space with six multi-color sound stages, nine cameras, and intricately placed microphones to capture the audience and show in a unique way. With a run time of just 61 minutes, Magnificent Coloring World captures the energy in the room that day, bringing Chance the Rapper’s larger-than-life persona to the big screen.
