Classical California Officially Launches Rebrand Following KUSC And KDFC UnificationDistinctively California, Classically Unconventional
|
Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (Los Angeles & San Francisco, CA) - Today, Classical California is officially launching its unified brand, bringing KUSC-FM (LA), KDFC-FM (SF), and nine other stations under its single statewide identity, Classical California.
This milestone follows the unification of on-air programming in October across KUSC-FM and KDFC-FM and marks a step forward in expanding free access to classical music, connecting with its community, and amplifying the arts across California and beyond.
“This launch reflects a simple belief: classical music belongs in everyday life,” says James A. Muhammad, President of Classical California. “Through familiar voices and extraordinary music, we invite listeners into something vibrant, warm, and deeply human.”
Classical California now reaches even more listeners with a single statewide identity, creating seamless access through a single station across all signals, digital platforms, website, social presence, and a new app, which will be released soon, expanding its impact and enabling greater support for California’s vibrant arts communities. The change strengthens Classical California’s ability to serve long-standing audiences in Los Angeles and San Francisco while extending high-quality classical music to communities across the state, many of which no longer have a local 24-hour classical radio station.
Listeners can explore a growing ecosystem of offerings, from broadcast radio and streaming to specialty genre-blending digital channels designed for families, gamers, film lovers, and Spanish-speaking audiences.
“A unified website and app will make it easier than ever to discover music, stories, and cultural moments from across the state and beyond,” says Bill Lueth, President of Classical California – San Francisco.
As America’s largest listener-supported public media organization dedicated to classical music, Classical California reaches more than 2 million listeners worldwide each month. Rooted in California’s legacy of creativity, entertainment, and innovation, the organization is reimagining what classical music is today. Through hand-curated programming, trusted and beloved hosts, and a fresh, inclusive tone, Classical California offers a contemporary, accessible approach to classical music that resonates with today’s audiences.
As a trusted, nonprofit, listener-supported public media organization, the community is at the heart of everything it does. Classical California remains deeply invested in local arts communities throughout Los Angeles, San Francisco, and across the state. Listener support keeps Classical California 100% free and fuels its mission to inspire new generations to value music and the arts.
