Dubbed country music's "most convincing young star since Stapleton" by Rolling StoneDillon Carmichael continues his lauded neo-traditional approach to country music, "matching the textures of yesteryear to the melodies of today" (The New York Times) in a seamless and unique fashion with the release of his sophomore album, 'Son of A' - out today (10.22) via Riser House Records.

Co-writing half of the 14 tracks on the new project, each tune highlights various aspects of the Kentucky native's signature style, which has continued to garner praise since his breakout debut, 'Hell On An Angel' (2018). With fun-filled tracks that could have easily been pulled straight from a jukebox in the '90s — from "Hot Beer," a "12-ounce can of sarcastic, commercial potential" (Billboard) produced by Jon Pardi and Ryan Gore, to the project's sole collaboration, "Pickin' Up Girls," a bass-driven singalong featuring The Cadillac Three — Carmichael continues to tip his hat to his favorite era of country music. Adding to his nod to the '90s, the hilarious "Big Truck" was co-written alongside one of the decade's country mainstays, David Lee Murphy

"I'm a big fan of '90s country. You can hear that in all of my music, so it was an honor to write 'Big Truck' with David Lee Murphy, one of the heavy hitters from that decade," Carmichael explains. "The song basically makes fun of people who drive big trucks, myself included - with some tongue-in-cheek moments throughout that still make me laugh when I sing them."

While his Bakersfield-tinged, comedic charisma is a cornerstone of 'Son of A,' Carmichael's traditional country love songs and heartbreak anthems are plentiful on the project as well, with tracks including "Leave The Lovin'," "Man Made a Bar" and "Baby, I Would" finding the 6'4" country stalwart in a vulnerable state with his deep-holler twang and buttery tone on full display — a voice The New York Times likened to that of Randy Travis.

Making his sophomore release that much more special, the aptly chosen title track, 'Son of A,' is a tear-jerking highlight and an anthemic "thank you" to those who raised him —featuring background vocals by Carmichael’s mother. The two took to the Grand Ole Opry stage on Tuesday evening (10.19) to debut the song live, which resulted in an emotional, standing ovation from the packed-out crowd.
