Dr. Dog's 'Critical Equation' - "A Roiling Caldron of Psychedelia" (NY Times) - Out Today

Dr. Dog’s ‘Critical Equation,’ the “deeply moving and resonant” (KEXP) new album from the beloved indie rock outfit, is out today on Thirty Tigers. Produced by Gus Seyffert (Bedouine, Michael Kiwanuka), ‘Critical Equation’ is the most infectious and adventurous collection Dr. Dog has laid to tape yet, recorded during an intense and transformative period during which the band questioned their creative process and emerged with what is “arguably Dr. Dog’s best work” (WXPN). It has received praise from the New York Times, NPR Music, Uncut, Relix, Consequence Of Sound and many more.

Dr. Dog is currently on their first tour in two years, which includes a three-night run at Brooklyn Steel — full dates below.

Praise For Dr. Dog and ‘Critical Equation’:
“a roiling caldron of psychedelia…it could almost be Santana, infused with 21st-century dread and nerve.” – New York Times, on "Go Out Fighting"

“the moment of realization just before emotional trauma hits home; it's a sadness so profound that it can't be spun into a lighthearted song.” – NPR Music, on "Listening In"

"The deep, pulled-back grooves of Critical Equation reveal the harnessed intensity of the songs and performances so deliberately that their myriad pleasures and embedded hooks will sneak up on you" — Uncut

“an ode to the perseverance the band found in themselves — and that the world at large gravely needs.” – Consequence of Sound, on "Go Out Fighting"

“a nice dose of soulful, lightly psychedelic rock that should instantly please longtime fans. ”– BrooklynVegan, on "Listening In"

“a kick back beauty” – Under the Radar, on "Listening In"

“deeply moving and resonant songwriting...[Dr. Dog] uses restraint as a strength and sounds at the top of their game while doing it.” – KEXP

“arguably Dr. Dog's best work...blossoms in ways that can be surprising” – WXPN

“ ['Critical Equation'] finds [Dr. Dog] reinvigorated and creating some of the strongest music of their careers.”– OPB

“a deliciously psychedelic slice of vintage rock-and-roll with a fast-beating pop heart.” – Relix

“one of [Dr. Dog’s] best albums…the band’s reestablished confidence, cohesion and ease is infectious and comes through in nearly every song on ‘Critical Equation’” – No Depression

“tighter and perhaps more focused than [Dr. Dog] has been in years…a surprisingly vital outing” - AllMusic
