Today (5.11), queer/pop country enigma Fancy Hagood (the artist formerly known as Who Is Fancy) releases the nostalgia-driven, whimsical video for his latest tune, “Bored.” Giving fans a colorful sneak peek into Fancy’s millennial mind, the clip takes fans on an animated trip to the trailblazing artist’s childhood.

With animation akin to some of the biggest shows of the late 1990s/early 2000s, from MTV’s Daria to Beavis and Butthead, the video finds a young, cartoon version of Fancy in his bedroom, processing the world around him and nodding to the pop-culture staples that defined his upbringing – from the Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child to Tamagotchis, Miss Cleo, and Brittney Spears, whose story actually inspired second verse of the thought-provoking tune.

“I used to love cartoons in the '90s, so I wanted a Beavis and Butthead-inspired cartoon for this particular video,” Fancy explains. “This video is all about consumption and getting lost in a world where the media is just trying to sell us anything and everything… And by the way, this is just the beginning of my animated self's journey. Stay tuned to find out what happens after my 'gaylien' abduction!”

With the video amplifying this sentiment, "Bored" tackles the topic of perception versus reality in today’s society and serves as a commentary on the glamorized way we view the world, the image we create for ourselves and how we often hide the struggles and truth beneath. Co-written with and produced by Alysa Vanderheym (Lady A, Florida Georgia Line, One Republic, Blake Shelton), “Bored” is Inspired in part by Fancy’s own demons and serves as a cautionary tale to remain honest with yourself.

Earlier this year, Fancy took on a new gig as a radio host, launching his new Apple Music Country Radio show, Trailblazers Radio, which airs by-weekly on Wednesdays on Apple Music Country at 2 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. CT and features interviews with risk-takers (like himself) who have helped break down barriers in the genre, including Kacey Musgraves, Brothers Osborne, Orville Peck and more. (Listen to his interview with Musgraves HERE.)

Before joining Elle King on her “Drunk and I Don’t Wanna Go Home” tour, Fancy also dropped his exquisite ballad collab with Devon Gilfillian called  “Let Me Be,” which was spotlighted on the cover of Apple Music’s New Music Daily playlist & several global Spotify New Music Friday playlists.
