‘DRAG: The Musical (The Studio Recording)’ Album to Drop May 13 - Album Teaser HERE

On May 13, ‘DRAG: The Musical (The Studio Recording)’ will drop ushering in a sure-to-be future cult classic that brings to life a cast of unforgettable characters who combine hilarity, heart and fabulosity. And what better way to tease the forthcoming album than with the first song written for the project, “Drag Is Expensive”?! Out today, the track, which features vocal performances by Monét X Change, Divina De Campo, Nick Adams, Lagoona Bloo and Max von Essen, captures the energy and sonic direction of the entire musical. You can listen to “Drag Is Expensive” in advance of the album release HERE.

Written by drag legend Alaska Thunderfuck along with her longtime musical collaborators, certified platinum songwriter/producer Tomas Costanza and celebrity song stylist Ashley Gordon, as well as directed by the Emmy-nominated Spencer Liff, ‘DRAG: The Musical (The Studio Recording)’ tells the story of two rival drag bars that go head-to-head for survival amidst financial troubles (additional synopsis details HERE). PEG Records and Killingsworth Recording Company have partnered with Craft Recordings/Concord Theatricals to release ‘DRAG: The Musical (The Studio Recording).’

In a feature with Entertainment Tonight, Tomas Costanza said that the track “is like being at an Andy Warhol after party in which Tim Curry and The B-52’s crash the stage to jam with The Sex Pistols. This is the song that started it all. It was the first track we wrote and it totally set the tone for the entire musical.”

Alaska Thunderfuck added, “When I first started drag, we were always broke. We would do anything to scrape together a few dollars to pay the light bill and buy a pack of beer. The musical is centered around a family of queens who are in a financial mess and are working their asses off to make ends meet.”

A touch of “Kinky Boots” with a dash of “La Cage aux Folles” and a sprinkle of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” the original album ‘DRAG: The Musical (The Studio Recording)’ is brought to life by an all-star cast of drag, theater and LGBTQ+ icons including Alaska, Nick Adams, Michelle Visage, Max von Essen, Bob The Drag Queen, Peppermint, Monét X Change, Jujubee, Fortune Feimster, Margaret Cho, Ginger Minj, Divina De Campo, Lagoona Bloo, Jamie Torcellini and Jack Rodman.

With plans already in the works to adapt the album into a live stage show later this year, “DRAG: The Musical” is set to further break the artform of drag into the theater world and inspire audiences around the world to embrace their inner queen.
