Says Shepherd, about “Coorabell”: “A track named after the place it was born & one of the most beautiful spots in New South Wales my friend Jono Ma (Jaguar Ma) took me to earlier this year.”
“LesAlpx” was released in June and has been met international acclaim including a Pitchfork Best New Track designation.
Shepherd also has a string of live and DJ dates scheduled for this summer/fall, see full itinerary below.
Praise for “LesAlpx”:
“As driven a track as Shepherd has ever made…an exercise in careful restraint – until it isn’t…it’s music befitting a sci-fi epic, or a sorcerer’s rites” – Pitchfork, Best New Track
“He’s back with a thump, and how…it’s the most body moving single he’s put out since 2010’s ‘People’s Potential’…in the right groove you could imagine listening to it for hours on repeat” – Vulture, Best New Music
“A hell of a return to form from Floating Points, and one that shows how much he’s grown in the past few years" – Consequence of Sound
“Head-clearing and floor-filling, ‘LesAlpx’ is the textbook definition of back-to-basics, though there’s nothing academic about the bold, threshing groove that Shepherd throttles and filters” – AV Club
“A glorious return if ever there was one” – DIY Magazine
“Sonic grace…unrelenting builds, shimmying percussion, and an utter playfulness” – Dancing Astronaut
Shepherd's 2015 debut album Elaenia was critically adored, proving the depth of his influences and skill in drawing on them whilst being utterly singular. Elaenia was awarded 'Album of The Year' at Resident Advisor and featured on many best of the year lists including Pitchfork, who named it ‘Best New Music’ with an 8.4 review, and The Guardian who gave it a rare 5/5. It prompted Rolling Stone to deem him “one of contemporary music’s most forward-thinking talents.” Since then Shepherd has continued to explore his sound with other notable releases including his short film and soundtrack Reflections - Mojave Desert, “a beautiful, psych-prog meditation” according to NPR Music. 2017 single 'Ratio' was Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World.
Following the success of Elaenia, Floating Points has gone on to take his live shows to the biggest venues and festivals the world has to offer including Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera and Pitchfork Fest Europe. As his live show continues to evolve, Floating Points maintains a reputation as an exceptional curator and global DJ. This was solidified earlier this year with his Late Night Tales compilation which received widespread praise.
