“I know now who I am, where I’m from, and where I’m going.” That’s how Los Angeles-based, Florida-born Gatlin describes the journey of creating her debut album The Eldest Daughter - which will be released October 3 on Dualtone Records. Both a reclamation of self and an unflinching confrontation of her past, The Eldest Daughterfuses Gatlin’s sharp wit and intimate storytelling to explore her experiences with queerness, mental health, gender roles and family tension. Throughout the collection’s ten songs, Gatlin reflects on coming out in the deeply conservative and religious community where she was raised, and the transformative moments that resulted: the pain of rejection, the questioning of all she’d ever known, and ultimately the liberation of creating a chosen life on her own terms. “It’s not only about taking control of the life I’ve decided to live,” reflects Gatlin on her debut album. “But sticking up for it.”

With the announcement of The Eldest Daughter, Gatlin has shared “Jesus Christ & Country Clubs” - a new song (and accompanying visual) that find her holding a mirror to the hypocrisy of those flawed communal beliefs. Equally cathartic and hilarious - it serves as a defiant refusal to be anything other than her full self, especially to meet the norms of a close-minded worldview. “I played a part for so many years growing up and when I finally left Florida I really got to discover who I am...and parts of who I am are rejected by my community and family. This track is about not being able to fit in where I grew up, and not wanting to." The song was written alongside Gatlin’s close collaborators Liza Owen (Carly Rae Jepsen, Selena Gomez) and Jennifer Decilveo (Miley Cyrus, Hozier).

The Eldest Daughter will also include “If She Was A Boy” - a track inspired by an old diary entry from early in Gatlin’s coming out journey, which she rediscovered while working on the new album. Upon its release in May, “If She Was A Boy” was deemed a Song You Need To Know by Rolling Stone and named one of GLAAD’s Best Songs Of The Week. Following the success of her self-released singles and EPs — which have amassed over 150 million streams to date — this debut album (and first work for Dualtone Records) finds Gatlin forging a new path forward with bold, introspective storytelling rooted in growth and healing. Additionally, Gatlin will bring The Eldest Daughter on the road this fall alongside Noah Floersch. Beginning with an Orlando homecoming on September 29, release week dates will include iconic venues like Washington DC’s Union Stage (October 2), Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg (October 6) and Boston’s Brighton Music Hall (October 7). Before that fall tour, she’ll play a hometown Los Angeles show at The Troubadour on July 31 with Charlie Burg. For a full list of announced dates visit: https://www.gatlinmusic.com/
