Gatlin has shared two new songs today that get vulnerable about navigating depression, doubt and self-esteem - especially as an emerging artist in today’s music industry. “Happy” and “Pipe Dream” are the latest advance looks at her upcoming debut album The Eldest Daughter (out October 3 via Dualtone Records) - which also finds the Florida-born musician reflecting on her experiences coming out in the deeply conservative and religious community where she was raised. While processing her experiences, Gatlin is unflinching in coming face-to-face with the resulting trauma - shining a light on these crucial (and still too rarely discussed) conversations, as she builds her own path forward and creates a chosen life on her own terms.

“I started writing this song with my friend Carrie K a couple years ago about my depression,” says Gatlin. “It started when I was talking about how I would sometimes daydream about ending up in the hospital so then this guy I liked would come visit me and realize he was desperately in love with me - and also would remember to text me back. Peak of delusion!!!”

"I had hit a point in my career where I was comparing everything to the success of my song ‘What If I Love You’ [which has over 85 million streams to date]. Nothing was even coming close to touching it and my value and worth as a creative was very tied up in that. It’s a song where I’m just looking at my life and realizing I’ve put all my eggs in this music basket… and what happens if all of this doesn’t work out."

Gatlin has previously shared “Jesus Christ & Country Clubs” from the new album - which finds her holding a mirror to the close-minded hypocrisy of her hometown’s communal beliefs - as well as “If She Was A Boy,” a track inspired by an old diary entry from early in her coming out journey. The latter was named a Song You Need To Know by Rolling Stone and one of GLAAD’s Best Songs Of The Week - while “Jesus Christ & Country Clubs” was deemed “a defiant and proud middle finger to those that don’t accept her for who she is” (Ones To Watch).

Gatlin will also bring The Eldest Daughter across the country this fall, beginning with a just-announced album preview party at Los Angeles’ In The Meantime on Wednesday September 17, where she’ll play the new record front-to-back with a full band for the first time. This special LA event will be followed by an Orlando homecoming on September 29 - as well as release-week dates at iconic venues like Washington DC’s Union Stage (October 2), Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg (October 6) and Boston’s Brighton Music Hall (October 7). For a full list of announced shows visit: https://www.gatlinmusic.com/
