(February 26th, 2026 – New York, NY) Fearless alt-pop provocateur girli shares ‘Romantic Sadness,’ the latest single to be lifted from her forthcoming third album ‘it’s just my opinion’, released via Believe Music on May 8th, 2026. ‘Romantic Sadness’ is heartbreak turned into strength and self-love disguised as a pop anthem.Built on ethereal synths, cinematic strings, and a bold, driving beat, the track captures the strange urge to romanticise pain just to survive it. It was written to stop the tears over a love that still lingers, living in that fragile space between devastation and denial, where pretending you’re okay almost starts to feel real. With lines like “I tried to turn it all into a story, forget that it’s happening to me,” the vocal is raw, emotional, and commanding. The song feels euphoric, but it’s powered by hurt, upbeat on the surface, aching underneath. ‘Romantic Sadness’ marks the final chapter of a love story, transforming tears into something almost triumphant. As she announces her third record, girli steps fully into her most honest era yet. The upcoming album is sharp, cohesive, and rooted in who she’s always been. Growing up in North London, she absorbed the chaos and hooks of the indie sleaze scene, and now she channels that restless energy into songs that feel alive, pulsing like a sweaty gig in Camden or Shoreditch. It’s classic girli alt-pop, nostalgic, chaotic, and fearless, but sharpened with a bold new edge. girli explains, “This song is based on something my younger sister said to me. She was going through a breakup, and she said, “it’s hard when you can’t even romanticise the sadness anymore, and it’s just sad.” I knew I had to write a song about that, about the way we try to romanticise our lives to cope with difficult things and seek comfort in feeling like our life is the plot of an arty indie movie. The lyrics are very visual; lipstick on a wine glass, smoking on a windowsill, Jane Austen novels and Robyn breakup songs. It’s about trying to run away from your sadness but it following you wherever you go. “ girli has been teasing the new era since the end of 2025, sharing ‘Better Undressed’ and the powerful recent single ‘Slap on the Wrist’. Known for her shimmering, high-concept production and fearless commentary, girli now pivots toward a more grounded, girl-next-door energy, trading gloss for grit, and polish for raw, intimate expression. It's about to be another huge year for girli as this Summer she’s hitting the road in full force, celebrating her new album and reconnecting with the community she’s beautifully built. Her new North American Tour will kick off right where it all began: Baby’s All Right, where she made her New York debut. She’ll be at the Brooklyn venue on June 11th, followed by stops in major cities including Chicago, DC, LA, and Toronto.

ABOUT girli Girli, also known as Milly Toomey, was born and raised in north London. She started out singing in bands, but soon realised she was "too much of a control freak" not to go solo. She adopted her stage name and signature pink hair during this period as a way of "weaponising everything that was being used against me". Right from the start, girli took pride in being slyly subversive. "The word 'girly' has so much stigma attached to it because it's often used to belittle femininity," she explains. "I wanted to take that word and turn it into something powerful, and I changed the 'y' to an 'i' so people would be able to find my music on Google. Now, with over 100 million stream, fans around the world are embracing girli's music as an inspiring and comforting part of their everyday lives. She’s been featured in major outlets like Billboard, Glamour UK, Queerty and GRAMMY.com’s Pride Month Playlist Of Rising LGBTQIA+ Artists.
