Gogol Bordello Returns To Brooklyn Bowl With Casa Gogol “New New York” Artists Puzzled Panther, Grace Bergere & More For New Year’s Eve Shows Dec 27-31

“‘Friends with labels always told me what a pain in the ass it is. And here I am doing exactly that anyway! ‘Cause when you put your ear to the NYC ground, it’s impossible not to. It’s necessary, it’s medicinal!”

Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, of international punk band Gogol Bordello, today announced the re-launch of his label Casa Gogol Records. With an ear to the ground and deeply rooted in the new New York scene, Casa Gogol is set to release a stream of thrilling work showcasing the sound of a new New York as well as collaborations with legends of the punk, rock and hardcore scene.

Casa Gogol is set to drop a Gogol Bordello collaboration cover of Angelic Upstarts’ “Solidarity” with Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order. This tribute to the punk and anti-Soviet movement will benefit Ukraine and stand in solidarity with oppressed groups worldwide. Hütz shared, “This is a particularly meaningful collaboration for us. To do this tribute with one of the most masterful and brilliant pioneers, Bernard Sumner, is truly epic and timely.” New York Composer/Producer and New Order affiliate Zachery Allan Starkey adds his trademark synthesizer work to “Solidarity”. Starkey, who frequently collaborates with Bernard Sumner on his solo productions, orchestrated the collaboration between Sumner and Gogol Bordello while he was opening for New Order on their US tour in early 2023. The genesis of the collaboration began when Hütz, Sumner, and Starkey spent time together during rehearsals for the Tibet House Benefit at Carnegie Hall in early 2023.

Bernard Sumner shared a statement, saying “I am honored to be asked to contribute to “Solidarity”. I think what the Ukrainian people are going through - fighting for their right to freedom is incredibly important for all of us, and I am in awe of the unimaginable sacrifices they are making in standing up to the primitive aggression that we all thought was consigned to another era. I believe their struggle is vital to preserving decency and self-determination for all our futures in this volatile world.” Both Bernard Sumner’s “Right To Freedom” Mix and Gogol Bordello’s “Unity” Mix are out November 27.

Punk girl duo Puzzled Panther - joined by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Brian Chase and Eugene Hütz - will release their debut EP on the imprint in early 2024. Following “Fake Ass Freedom Fighters,” their new single Smoke and the Mirrors We Broke is out November 27 - produced by post-punk legend Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Amyl and the Sniffers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Idles). Other releases will include hypnotic singer-songwriter Grace Bergere and beyond.

“Youth culture is always producing new brilliant music, and you just pray that you are there when it happens.” says Hütz, “As different as Puzzled Panther and Grace Bergere are, they have the right kind of newness and right kind of oldness about them. They arrived into this world as poets with a singular vision and superb knack for melodism. To me they are the new New York, which has a lot more in common with that magical old New York we know, and none of that bullshit in the middle.”

ABOUT EUGENE HÜTZ / GOGOL BORDELLO

Eugene Hütz is a Ukrainian-born artist, songwriter and frontman of International punk band Gogol Bordello – a rare musical force raucously illuminating stages alongside System of a Down, Rancid and Dropkick Murphys, dueting with Regina Spektor, and cutting albums with Rick Rubin & Steve Albini. A lifelong lover of the punk scene growing up in Ukraine, Hütz found himself where he felt he belonged, in New York’s Lower East Side in the late 90s, where he went to shows and later performed at the legendary CBGB. Crashing at friends’ apartments and playing acoustic sets in NYC Ukrainian bars, his group steadily grew to an 8 piece multicultural band, combining Eastern, Western and Latin traditions. Hütz is a tireless advocate for Ukrainian solidarity, partnering with Nova Ukraine and ArtDopomoga, as well as putting together benefits with Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu and more. Hütz has also appeared in arthouse films such as Liev Schreiber’s Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, Filth and Wisdom helmed by Madonna and this year’s Vice documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story (Executive Producer Liev Schreiber).

ABOUT PUZZLED PANTHER

Since vocalist Victoria Espinoza and Harlem-born guitarist Kay Bon Tempo met in 2022 at a Gogol Bordello show, they’ve become somewhat of the Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn of NYC. You may have caught them at Sunday Hard Core Matinee, TV Eye, Saint Vitus, Bowery Electric (with Michael Imperioi’s ZOPA), an acoustic punk party in Bushwick, or getting full on electric at a studio in Harlem. That’s when you go, fuck yes! Gonzo lives! The world isn't dying, it’s just reconstructing! Add Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase, Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hütz on guitar and Alex Ryaboi on bass and you’ve got yourself a potent NYC vitamin and punky dancefloor upper. Like those native New Yorkers for whom Ramones & Sonic Youth is like a good morning bowl of cereal, Puzzled Panther live is a spectacle of raw, fun creativity that accompanies their undeniably ear catching songwriting.
