Friday, April 4 - Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz of international punk band Gogol Bordellohas teamed up with Karen O for an original new song “Raven,” featured on NYContinuity Vol.1: New New York Does Old New York out today on Casa Gogol Records. The release follows Gogol Bordello’s collaboration with Vera Farmiga’s band The Yagas on the Ukrainian love song “Chervona Ruta,” which they will play at the April 5 Bowery Ballroom album release party, with a special introduction from Liev Schreiber tickets here.

NYContinuity Vol.1 continues the dialogue between NYC’s new wave of bands and their heroes with Puzzled Panther’s cover of Sonic Youth’s “Dirty Boots” (produced by Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and drums by Brian Chase), Mary Shelley’s Bushwick rooftop version of Talking Heads’ “The Great Curve” (produced by David Byrne's American Utopia music director Mauro Refosco), Pons’ manic Suicide cover of “Fast Money Music,” Grace Bergere’s hypnotic take on The Velvet Underground’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties” feat. Thurston Moore and more.

Original tracks are also featured, including Puzzled Panther’s Fractured,” channeling Television and Lydia Lunch from the forthcoming EP STING OF IODINE, and a Grace Bergere remix by Mr. Pharmacist a.k.a. Gregg Foreman (Alan Vega and Cat Power). It will all culminate with the show at Bowery Ballroom on April 5 with some of these artists, plus TwoWayRadio and more. This project is part of Casa Gogol's mission to preserve, perpetuate, and accelerate NYC’s sonic culture – fostering generational cross-pollination, and uniting punk and hardcore artists to sustain the genre’s legacy of identity and belonging.

“Arriving in NYC in 1997, I no longer felt like a marginal freakaholic,” explains Eugene Hütz.“The city took me under its wing, picked me up, and pinned me straight into the lineage where I belonged. NYContinuity is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating NYC’s unique ability to define the blueprint the world will inevitably copy for the next 15–20 years.”

“Music comes from a generational cross-pollination. The greatest thing about punk rock was that it had an unprecedented mix of people of all backgrounds and all ages striking new sparks out of each other.”

ABOUT EUGENE HÜTZ / GOGOL BORDELLO

Eugene Hütz is a Ukrainian-born artist, songwriter, and frontman of the International punk band Gogol Bordello – a rare musical force raucously illuminating stages alongside System of a Down, Rancid, and Dropkick Murphys, dueting with Regina Spektor and cutting albums with Rick Rubin & Steve Albini. A lifelong lover of the punk scene growing up in Ukraine, Hütz found himself where he felt he belonged, in New York’s Lower East Side in the late 90s, where he went to shows and later performed at the legendary CBGB. Crashing at friends’ apartments and playing acoustic sets in NYC Ukrainian bars, his group steadily grew to an 8-piece multicultural band, combining Eastern, Western, and Latin traditions. Hütz is a tireless advocate for Ukrainian solidarity, partnering with Nova Ukraine and ArtDopomoga, as well as putting together benefits with Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu, and more. Hütz has also appeared in arthouse films such as Liev Schreiber’sEverything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, Filth and Wisdom helmed by Madonna, and last year’s Vice documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story (Executive Producer Liev Schreiber).
