Hard Swinging Vocal Trio Duchess Unveils Their Very Own Podcast On Music, Food, Drinks And Fun: “Harmony & Hijinks”

First 3 Episodes Available Now, Episode 2 Features Special Guest Jane Monheit

Hard swinging jazz vocal trio Duchess has launched their very own podcast, called “Harmony and Hijinks.” This carefree, hilarious new podcast series is a continuation of Duchess live in concert and on record: a classic approach to entertainment with a modern insouciance. The podcast series beams with Duchess’ love for great music and performers, cocktails, chefs and cuisine and more, all presented with an effortless banter that’s brimming with talent and fun. “Harmony and Hijinks” is hosted by all three members of the esteemed harmonizing trio - Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner & Melissa Stylianou – and Duchess will release a new album this Friday, called ‘Laughing At Life’ (Anzic Records).

Episode 1 is an introduction to the members of Duchess. All accomplished singers with solo albums to their name, they joined forces to create this one-of-a-kind harmonizing trio born out of their love for the popular 1920s-30s New Orleans trio the Boswell Sisters. Episode 2 welcomes GRAMMY-nominated singer Jane Monheit to the show to swap stories about the business and joy of singing. Episode 3 is a jaunt through the new Duchess record ‘Laughing At Life,’ a track-by-track celebration of the new arrangements and some inside information from the singers and producer/arranger Oded Lev-Ari. This episode features “Swing Brother Swing.”

Upcoming episodes include Cecil McLorin Salvant and Janis Siegel. Future guests will be announced, and will include chefs, dancers, writers and actors.

Duchess formed after all three singers met and started singing together at the 55 Bar in New York City. Sit-ins and one-offs eventually led to a monthly gig at the 55 Bar, a recording and then performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Monterey Jazz festival, the Jazz Standard, the Jerusalem, Toronto and Ottawa Jazz Festivals, and singing with artists like Christian McBride, Kat Edmonson, Wycliff Gordon, Jeff Goldblum, and others. The New Yorker says “this fresh-faced triumvirate plays it straight from the heart, leaving any trace of camp or postmodern irony at the door.”
