Holiday Season Festivities For The Whole Family At The United Palace

Washington Heights Wonder Theater To Host Annual National Tour Of 'The Hip Hop Nutcracker' On 12/14 + A Screening Of 'It's A Wonderful Life' During Special Holiday Open House On 12/17

This December, the United Palace will once again open its doors to celebrate the season with a diverse range of festivities. Highlights include the annual national tour of 'The Hip Hop Nutcracker' on Thursday, December 14th and a very special screening of the Christmas classic and family favorite 'It's A Wonderful Life' on Sunday, December 17th.

'The Hip Hop Nutcracker' is a contemporary dance spectacle set to Tchaikovsky's timeless music. The United Palace will kick off a special run of three NYC-area shows on Thursday, December 14th. 'The Hip Hop Nutcracker' features Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, opening the show in most cities with a short set before rapping the introduction. The tour has already made fans in other cities, with LA Weekly saying the show has a "funky flair that incorporates kickin' choreography and costumes, rhythmic vibes and wondrous word flow."

On December 17th, the United Palace will host a holiday open house with a screening of beloved film 'It's A Wonderful Life.' Beginning at 1:30pm, event goers will have the chance to participate in the pre-show entertainment which includes performances by Mariachi Infante, a tour of United Palace, refreshments and photos with Santa. The film will also include a special intro by Mary Owen, daughter of actress Donna Reed, during which she will read letters from WWII soldiers to her mother. Attendees can earn free admission by presenting their bulletin from that afternoon's interfaith service at the United Palace House of Inspiration.

Formerly known as the Loew's 175th Street Theatre, the remarkable United Palace is located at 4140 Broadway at 175th Street in Washington Heights. Originally opened in 1930 as one of the metro area's five Wonder Theaters, the theater continues its storied history by hosting special events including concerts, film screenings, church services and more.
