June 14, 2024 – The world of music remembers and celebrates the enduring legacy of George Brown, beloved co-founder of the iconic group Kool & The Gang, Songwriters Hall of Famer, drummer, keyboardist, author, husband, and father. This year marks the release of his posthumous solo project, ‘Where I’m Coming From,’ which stands as a testament to his unparalleled talent and profound musicality. Arriving on September 13, the album tells Brown’s life story through a captivating blend of seductive R&B and soul, taking listeners on a transcendent musical journey. Featuring a blend of personal narratives and social commentary, ‘Where I’m Coming From’ showcases George's multifaceted talent as a songwriter and musician. Arriving today is the project’s first single, “What If.”

“What If” is a heartfelt composition that embodies George Brown’s timeless artistry and musical brilliance, serving as a poignant reminder of his enduring impact on the music industry. On the soul-stirring track, Brown reflects deeply on life’s meaning and the power of faith, delivering powerful lyrics such as, “Why do we lose our faith and call it fate?” and “Why do we take advantage of the weak?” The chorus resonates with profound questions: “What if you find that heaven’s gates were closed forever? / And all of the goods you’ve done no gain… / Would you still serve to make this world a better place? / Or would you just shake the finger and blame in someone’s face?”

Reflecting on George's remarkable career and the journey behind his solo work, his widow, Hahn Brown, shared insights into his creative process. “George was always immersed in music,” she recalls. “He began writing for the band from the onset of our relationship, but it wasn't until later that he embarked on his own solo journey.”

Hanh reminisces about George's songwriting process, describing it as deeply personal and introspective. “George drew inspiration from his own experiences, as well as from the world around him,” she explains. “His lyrics were a reflection of his emotions, his relationships, and his observations of life.”

Throughout his career, George remained dedicated to his craft, pouring his heart and soul into every composition. “George was a gifted storyteller,” Hahn remarks. “He drew inspiration from his grandmother, who instilled in him valuable life lessons and wisdom. She was his guiding light, shaping his perspective on faith, family, and humanity.”

George Brown died from cancer in 2023, aged 74.

In 2023, Brown produced the band’s latest album, ‘People Just Wanna Have Fun,’ and released his memoir “Too Hot: Kool & The Gang & Me.” In 2024 Kool and the Gang was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Their hit singles include “Ladies Night,” “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie.” They’ve received two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums.

He is survived by his wife, Hanh Brown, and his five children.
