Hurray For The Riff Raff Unveil “Hungry Ghost” Video Via The Fader

Summer Dates Added To International Tour – UK Tour Launches This Week With Sold Out Show In London; ‘The Navigator’ Out March 10

Hurray for the Riff Raff has unveiled the first music video from ‘The Navigator’ (March 10/ATO Records) today. The video for lead single “Hungry Ghost” was filmed in New Orleans and pays tribute to safe venues and parties offering sanctuary for the LGBTQ community. ‘The Navigator’ is Alynda Segarra’s interwoven, cinematic story about a street kid at a crossroads of identity and ancestral weight.  “Hungry Ghost” is a searing, introspective rock anthem about the story’s main character, Navita, trying to find her own voice and identity.

Watch the video for “Hungry Ghost,” directed by Sarrah Danziger, here:

Says Alynda Segarra:

Hungry Ghost captures the beauty of safe and queer diy venues and parties. These sanctuaries will only become more important in these grave and uncertain times. Queerness is the future of our country and we, the future generation, are aiming for the freedom of gender fluidity and inter-sectional justice for all people. As artists and freethinkers we must care for each other and hold these safe spaces close to us.  With those we lost in Oakland and Orlando in our hearts, this video is a love letter to all the queer people who are putting on intentional events that promote nights of safety, unity and freedom. Keep up the good work.

The 12 original songs on ‘The Navigator’ were inspired by Alynda Segarra’s own journey growing up in New York, from the Bronx to finding the downtown punk scene and beyond. She was inspired by poetry, Puerto Rican activist groups the Young Lords and the Ghetto Brothers, Fania Records and more.

The first song to be released from the new album in December, “Rican Beach,” has since been praised by Pitchfork, NPR, the NY Times, Rolling Stone and more. Says NPR: "Segarra is an activist who specializes in identifying and dismantling toxicity...her tone is coolly suspicious and scornful...electric guitar runs act like a chorus that speaks of chaos and wounding."

Hurray for the Riff Raff will tour extensively in 2017 and today announced additional dates for this summer. Tickets for the June tour will be on sale Friday, January 20th at 10AM local time. Full list of dates below.

“The Navigator” is currently available at the band’s official store, iTunes and Amazon for fans to pre-order with an immediate download of “Rican Beach.” The PledgeMusic pre-order features exclusive items including autographed CD and vinyl, one of a kind lyric sheets, and deluxe bundles.
