Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates "Ban College Football" at NYU's Skirball Center May 8

Malcolm Gladwell Buzz Bissinger Support the Motion, Tim Green Jason Whitlock Oppose

New York, NY – April 20, 2012 – On May 8, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) will debate its last motion of the Spring 2012 season, “Ban College Football.” Corruption and a growing concern for head injury have put college football in the spotlight. Are football programs’ millions in profits exploitation? Or are they still a celebration of amateur sport? Does football’s inherent danger and violence have any place in institutions of higher learning? Or does it provide young men with educational opportunities they would not otherwise have?

In support of the motion are Buzz Bissinger, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of Friday Night Lights and New Yorker staff writer and author of The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell. Against the motion are former NFL defensive end and football broadcaster Tim Green and Jason Whitlock, national columnist for FOXSports.com.

Intelligence Squared U.S.'s spring season debates are streamed live on Fora.tv with additional coverage from IQ2US’s media partner, Slate. Debates air on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide and are televised nationally on the WORLD channel and in the New York area on PBS Channel Thirteen, WNET, WLIW, and NJTV.

ABC News correspondent John Donvan is the moderator, and the executive producer is Dana Wolfe.
