Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates “Science Refutes God” at Kaufman Center, December 5th

On December 5th, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) will wrap its fall 2012 season with a debate on the fundamental question—evolution or creation: “Science Refutes God.” Americans are on the fence. According to one survey, while 61% of Americans believe we have evolved over time, 22% believe this evolution was guided by a higher power, with another 31% on the side of creationism. For some, modern science debunks many of religion's core beliefs, but for others, questions like "Why are we here?" and "How did it all come about?" can only be answered through a belief in the existence of God. Can science and religion co-exist?

Lawrence Krauss, theoretical physicist and professor at Arizona State University’s School of Earth & Space Exploration, and Michael Shermer, founding publisher of Skeptic magazine and author of Why Darwin Matters, will argue in support of the motion. Dinesh D'Souza, director of one of the highest-grossing documentaries of all time, 2016: Obama’s America, and former president of King’s College, and Ian Hutchinson, Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT, will argue against the motion.

Intelligence Squared U.S.'s fall season debates are streamed live on Fora.tv. Debates also air on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide and are televised nationally on the WORLD channel and in the New York area on PBS Channel Thirteen, WNET, WLIW, and NJTV.
