Intelligence Squared U.S., World Channel Partner for National Broadcast

NEW YORK, NY—April 11, 2012— Beginning April 13th, WORLD, public television’s digital channel, will air selected debates from the influential public policy debate series Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US). Founded in New York City in 2006 by Robert Rosenkranz, IQ2US has grown into an internationally syndicated series heard and watched by millions with radio broadcast, podcast, and live online stream. The series attracts some of the world's top thinkers—Paul Krugman, Karl Rove, Christopher Hitchens, Arianna Huffington, and Fareed Zakaria, to name just a few. 


WORLD will launch the monthly series on April 13th at 8 PM Eastern, with a popular debate from IQ2US’s Fall 2011 season, “The World Would Be Better Off Without Religion,” featuring Matthew Chapman, Co-Found of Science Debate and great-great grandson of Charles Darwin; A.C. Grayling, renowned atheist and professor of philosophy; Dinesh D’Souza, author of What’s So Great About Christianity?, and Rabbi David Wolpe, named #1 Pulpit Rabbi in America by Newsweek. The second debate to air will be “Congress Should Pass Obama’s Jobs Plan—Piece by Piece” on Friday, May 25th at 9 PM Eastern, with additional debates and schedules to be announced.

This new partnership with public television is in direct alignment with IQ2US’s goals as a nonprofit public policy venture and complements a growing audience of over 220 NPR stations nationwide. Produced and distributed by WGBH Boston, WNET New York Public Media, and American Public Television in association with the Public Broadcasting Service and the National Educational Telecommunications Association, the WORLD channel is available in markets representing more than 52% of US TV households, and 12 of the top 20 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston and Atlanta.
