It’s My Party And I’ll Cry If I Want To: Lawrence Laments the Lows of Turning “23”

Midway Through 60+ Date Stadium Tour With Jonas Brothers, Playing Barclays Center In Brooklyn 12/9

Today Lawrence — the 8-piece group fronted by siblings Gracie and Clyde Lawrence — celebrates their massive four month, 60+ date stadium tour with the Jonas Brothers with a new single, "23." The tour began back in August with two hometown shows at Yankee Stadium.

Between bright horn lines and exuberant vocal riffs, Lawrence laments the letdowns of being 23, an age filled with goodbyes and changes galore. Co-written and co-produced by Jon Bellion and mixed by the 4x GRAMMY winning engineer Serban Ghenea — whose star studded credits include mixing for Olivia Rodrigo, Jonas Brothers, Troye Sivan, Taylor Swift, Ice Spice, Maggie Rogers, and more — the track is a crisp, pop-forward take on Lawrence’s funky sound.

Lawrence also recently released “i’m confident that i’m insecure,” a song that finds humor in the most self-critical of thoughts. Listen here and watch their “acoustic-ish” version, filmed in a single take, here.

As NPR writes, “siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are not your typical pair.” The duo has been writing songs inspired by the countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records in their family’s New York City apartment since they were little kids — all the way up until they met their band while in college. Now, that same 8-piece group who ran up basement shows is now playing for sold out stadiums on one of the largest tours happening this fall alongside the Jonas Brothers.

Get a sense of life on the road this fall in their recent tour diary for Seventeen and their interview with Entertainment Tonight. Lawrence is also in the midst of debuting a mini documentary series called “The Hotel TV Show,” about making a living as an 8-piece band and launching a major 2021 tour in the wake of the pandemic.

Since the release of their 2021 LP Hotel TV, the group has performed single “Don’t Lose Sight” on Kimmel, “Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me” on Colbert, taken their music to the road at major festivals include Coachella last summer, plus Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Firefly, Okeechobee, Hangout, Summerfest, and more, sold out three consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel on a 53 date headlining tour, hit #33 on Top 40 radio and garnered over 60 million streams on Spotify. Last week, a member of BTS sang along to their song "Don't Lose Sight" on a livestream — Lawrence is simply everywhere you look.
