Stereogum confirmed album details yesterday, calling the new record “one of 2016’s most keenly anticipated new albums”.
“O B 1”, the first single from ‘Every Now & Then,’ earned nods from a host of outlets including Pitchfork, Stereogum, and Consequence of Sound, who called the track a “warm, swirling listen”.

The follow up to their 2013 debut ‘Howlin’’, ‘Every Now & Then’ reflects a period of exploration and expansion for the Australian duo of singer/guitarist Gabriel Winterfield and multi-instrumentalist/producer Jono Ma, who will be joined on tour by bassist Jack Freeman. Produced by Ma, the 11-song collection embraces a range of influences from funk, dub, and techno, to krautrock, garage rock and psychedelia – sometimes in the same track.
Recorded on a dilapidated sunflower farm in the French countryside, the new album was mixed by longtime studio collaborator DJ Ewan Pearson, and features Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa playing drums on several tracks. The album’s defining moment of inspiration happened while Ma and Winterfield were trekking through the wilderness in Northern Australia. After a dangerously close encounter with a shark while fishing, the two decided to take shelter in the studio and channeled their newfound appreciation for life into the songwriting process.
In addition to supporting dates with Tame Impala earlier this year, Jagwar Ma has toured with The xx and Foals, and were festival favorites at Glastonbury. Following a supporting date with Grimes, the band kicks off a run of west coast dates this month, including slots at FYF and Bumbershoot. Additional headlining US dates are slated for the fall.
